Domain franck-otk.de still federated to GoDaddy tenant (sso.secureserver.net)

Question

My domain franck-otk.de was previously connected to Microsoft 365 via DomainFactory / GoDaddy.

The contract has been cancelled and the domain moved to Hetzner.

However the domain is still federated to sso.secureserver.net.

I no longer have access to the tenant.

Please remove the federation and release the domain so it becomes managed again.

If your custom domain has already been verified in another Entra directory. You can do this by entering your domain name in the following URL to retrieve the tenant ID where it is verified:

https://www.whatismytenantid.com/

Once you have the tenant ID, verify whether it belongs to your tenant. If the tenant ID is different and you do not own that directory, the only option is to contact the Data Protection team via a support ticket to request the removal of the domain verification from the existing Entra ID tenant. After the removal, you should be able to verify the domain in your tenant without any issues.

The issue relates to an unable to verify custom domain name as it is verified in different directory in Azure.

To resolve this, we have engaged our Data Protection team through a support ticket. They will reach out to you via email or phone to help restore access to the tenant and assist in resolving the issue.

The domain remains federated because it is still associated with a Microsoft 365/Entra ID tenant that is not accessible. Removing federation or releasing the domain from that tenant cannot be done self-service without admin access to that tenant.

The supported path is to work with Microsoft support so the domain can be disassociated from the old tenant after verifying ownership:

1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center with an account in the new tenant where the domain should be used.
2. At the bottom right, select Help & Support.
3. In the Support Assistant pane, describe that the custom domain franck-otk.de is still federated to a previous GoDaddy/DomainFactory tenant that is no longer accessible and must be released/converted to managed.
4. Indicate that domain ownership can be proven (for example, by adding DNS records at the current registrar/host).
5. If the automated suggestions do not resolve the issue, choose Contact support and work with support to have the domain removed from the old tenant or its federation cleared.

If the domain is also added as a custom domain in the new tenant and is currently managed there, ensure it is not set as default and is not used by any users, groups, or mailboxes before any removal/re-add operations, following the domain removal prerequisites.

If the tenant that still holds the domain is inactive or blocked, the tenant administrator (if known) can request reactivation within the allowed window and then remove the domain or change its federation state; otherwise, Microsoft support must handle it after validating ownership.
