I’m happy to help. I understand how frustrating it is when your wallpaper won’t stay as expected.
Have you already tried the Q&A Assist suggestions? In addition, please try the steps below.
Step 1 – Clear cached wallpaper files (common fix after restarts)
- Press Win + R, paste the following, then press Enter:
%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Themes - Delete “TranscodedWallpaper” (if present)
- Delete the “CachedFiles” folder
- Restart the PC (not Shut down), then set your wallpaper again
Step 2 – Check if personalization is syncing across devices
If you use the same Microsoft account on more than one PC, background changes can sync back.
- Go to Settings > “Accounts” > “Windows backup”
- Under “Remember my preferences”, turn off “Personalization”
This keeps the wallpaper local to this device only.
Step 3 – Check for wallpaper apps
Some optional Microsoft apps can also rotate backgrounds.
- Go to Settings > “Apps” > “Installed apps”
- Look for apps like Bing Wallpaper
- If installed, uninstall it and restart
