Error code 0x80070070 indicates that there is not enough disk space available, most commonly when installing Windows updates or during setup/upgrade.
To fix it on Windows 10 install/upgrade or Windows Update:
- Check free space on the system drive (usually C:)
- Open File Explorer.
- Right-click Local Disk (C:) > Properties.
- Ensure there is at least 20 GB of free space on the operating system disk.
- Free up disk space
- Uninstall unused apps.
- Delete or archive files that are no longer needed.
- Move large files (videos, ISOs, backups) to another drive or an external disk.
- If still low on space
- On a virtual machine, extend the OS disk in the virtualization platform, then let Windows see the larger disk.
- On a physical PC, use an external drive during the update process. See “Updating Windows using an external storage device” in the referenced article.
- Retry the update or upgrade
- After freeing space, run Windows Update or the Windows 10 setup/upgrade again.
If the error persists after ensuring sufficient free space, collect Windows servicing/update logs as described in the referenced article and contact Microsoft Support.
