Hi Elizabeth S,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.
Being prompted to change a password this often can be very frustrating—especially on a personal device and without wanting to remain signed in.
For a personal Microsoft account, daily password changes are not expected. Repeated password-change prompts commonly occur when the sign-in system detects too many unsuccessful sign-in attempts (for example, background sign-in retries from an app/device using an old password, or automated sign-in attempts against the account). When this pattern repeats, additional verification and a forced password change can be triggered as a protective measure.
Below are practical actions that often help reduce repeated prompts (without enabling “stay signed in”):
1. Confirm password-expiration is not enabled
- During password change, there is an optional checkbox such as “Make me change my password every 72 days.” Ensure this checkbox is not selected.
2. Remove saved/old credentials that may be retrying sign-in in the background
- A browser autofill entry, a mail app on a phone, Outlook/Windows Mail, Xbox/Minecraft sign-in, or another device can keep attempting sign-in with an old password. Clearing saved passwords for Microsoft sign-in and temporarily removing the account from apps/devices (then adding it back after a successful web sign-in) can stop repeated background failures.
3. Use a clean browser session to avoid sign-in loops
- Try a single sign-in from an InPrivate/Incognito window. If sign-in behaves normally there, clearing cookies/site data for Microsoft sign-in/Outlook in the regular browser can help.
