How to get rid of Edge. I want to use GOOGLE CHROME, not Edge, I don't like it. All links are opened with Edge, which is not what I want. I do not like that we are taken as hostage with Edge. I do not like Edge.

Want to get rid of Edge. I indicated Chrome as my Default browser. Yet... all links are opened with Edge. I hate it.

    Hi!

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand the frustration. Windows sometimes tries to push Microsoft Edge even if you prefer Google Chrome. You can change the system settings so you can set every link using Chrome. (You cannot uninstall Edge, changing is the best way)

You have two options on how to change it.

    Option1:

    1. Set Chrome as the default browser (Windows 11)
    2. Open Settings.
    3. Go to Apps → Default apps.
    4. Find and click Google Chrome.
    5. Click Set default at the top.

    Option2:

    1. Open Google Chrome.
    2. Go to Settings.
    3. Click Default browser.
    4. Select Make default.

Once done you can try to test it again and let me know what happened.

Microsoft Edge cannot be uninstalled from Windows because it is a core component of the operating system that supports web-based applications. However, other browsers such as Google Chrome can be installed and set as the default browser for most activities.

Even when another default browser is selected, some Microsoft apps (for example, Outlook for Windows and the Microsoft Teams desktop app) can still open web links in Microsoft Edge to provide a side-by-side experience with email or chat. This behavior does not replace the Windows default browser setting and can be turned off in the settings of those apps by choosing a specific browser to open web links.

    To summarize:

    1. Edge cannot be fully removed from Windows.
    2. Chrome can be installed and set as the default browser.
    3. For links that still open in Edge from Outlook or Teams, change the link-opening behavior inside those apps’ settings to use the preferred browser instead of Edge.
