Unable to send emails

Every time I try to send emails, they go to the outbox but are not sent. The following error is shown in a pop-up box:

Task '<mod: PII removed>@gmail.com - Sending' reported error (0x80070057) : 'Sorry, something went wrong. You may want to try again.'

Can you please investigate as it seems to be at your end, not my PC.

Thank you,

Rev. Colin Fleetney

    Hello

Many users seem to have this issue recently. Microsoft is still investigating this issue. The current workaround is published here: https://support.microsoft.com/office/users-get-errors-0x800ccc0e-0x800ccc0f-synchronizing-gmail-and-yahoo-accounts-in-classic-outlook-e5a7b684-7c5c-4848-ab2d-d48291451f67

Or you can use New Outlook for now until Microsoft fixes this issue completely.

The error indicates Outlook cannot successfully hand off the message to the mail server. Follow these checks in order:

    1. Confirm Outlook is online and connected
      • Look at the status bar at the bottom of classic Outlook.
      • If it shows Disconnected, Working Offline, or Trying to connect…, Outlook is not connected to the mail server.
      • Go to the Send/Receive tab on the ribbon, then in Preferences select Work Offline once to toggle back online.
      • After it shows as connected, open the Outbox and try sending again (or choose Send/Receive).
    2. Verify Internet connectivity
      • Open a browser (Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome).
      • Browse to http://www.microsoft.com or http://www.bing.com.
      • If these sites do not load, fix the network first using the steps in Fix network connection issues in Windows. Outlook cannot send mail without a working Internet connection.
    3. Check for large attachments in the Outbox
      • Open the Outbox folder.
      • Start with the oldest stuck message.
      • If any message has attachments larger than about 20 MB, remove the attachment and either:
        • Attach a smaller file, or
        • Replace it with a link to the file.
      • Send the message again.
    4. If the issue persists
      • If messages still stay in the Outbox after confirming Outlook is online, the Internet is working, and attachments are not too large, further repair steps may be needed (such as repairing Outlook or the mail profile) as described in the referenced articles.

These steps address the most common causes where messages remain in the Outbox and are not sent, even though they appear to be queued.
