    Hi @David Neuman

Thank you for reaching out and for taking the time to describe the situation so clearly. I appreciate the details you provided, and I recognize how important it is to regain access to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center so you can access and manage the administrator account as soon as possible.

When you first purchased your subscription, Microsoft sent a confirmation email to the address you used to register your Microsoft account. This email included your admin account details, which typically follow the format ******@yourcompany.onmicrosoft.com.

If you’re unsure which admin account was created, I recommend checking that original confirmation email. You may want to search your inbox for keywords such as “Microsoft,” “onmicrosoft.com,” or “subscription confirmation.”

Once you locate your admin credentials, please try signing in at: https://admin.microsoft.com/. If you run into any issues during sign‑in, feel free to send me a screenshot of the error message via private message. This will help me understand exactly what’s happening and guide you more quickly toward a solution.

If you still can’t locate that email and you are the only admin in your organization, this situation requires immediate contact with Microsoft’s Data Protection Team. Please note that only the Data Protection Team has the necessary permissions to reset your account from the backend. They are the designated and authorized team for handling account-related issues of this nature.

Option 1: Contact Microsoft Data Protection Support by Phone (Primary Method)

To regain access to your admin account as you can't access the Admin Portal, you can try reaching out to our Global Customer Service phone to raise a request for resetting your authentication method here: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support. During the call, request to speak to an agent, and share with them every detail related to your query and also mention that you are the only admin lost access to your account. This should allow you to contact the appropriate team so you can solve this incident as soon as possible.

Here are some tips and an example of a prompt to help you navigate the IVR more effectively:

In some countries, it is an automated conversation like:

IVR: What kind of problem are you concerned about?

    You: Authenticator.

IVR: What kind of product do you use?

    You: Office 365 for business.

IVR confirmation: education or company account?

    You: For companies

    IVR: Are you an administrator?

    You: Yes.

IVR: Do you have another administrator in your organization?

    You: No.

IVR: Do you need a... Service request?

You: Yes. I need to create a ticket. Please send me direct to the Data Protection Team.

Microsoft’s Data Protection Team will require proof of:

    • Domain ownership (DNS management access)
    • Billing/subscription details (payment methods, account history)
    • Tenant ID of the locked organization
    • Business registration documents
    • Authorized signatory documentation

Option 2: Create a Temporary Account (Trial Tenant) to Submit a Support Ticket (Alternative Method)

If you still cannot reach to a live agent, there is still a workaround, you might consider registering for a new tenant by signing up for a trial subscription via this link Microsoft 365 Business Plans and Pricing | Microsoft 365. This would allow you to create a new tenant following the prompts provided. Once set up, you can access the admin console of the new tenant and submit a support ticket requesting to speak with the Data Protection team on behalf of your previous tenant.

Just to clarify, moderators do not have the ability to view or change user account information, so we cannot help with login issues, password resets, or modifying access rights. Even though we cannot access the internal tools required for account‑specific fixes, we are here to support you in every way we can within our scope.

Please remember to cancel the trial subscription after your issue is resolved, as this will help you avoid any accidental billing. You may prefer the following resource for detailed instructions: Cancel your Microsoft business subscription in the Microsoft 365 admin center | Microsoft Learn

I hope this helps you regain access to your account quickly. Please try the steps and let me know whether they resolve the issue. If the problem persists, we can work together to find a solution.

As other users will also search for information in this community, your vote can significantly help those with similar inquiries quickly locate the most relevant resources.

Thank you for your kindness and for contributing to the forum.

For a Microsoft 365 business admin account, the admin username is a normal work or school account in the tenant. Use these steps to recover or identify it and then regain access:

    1. Check where the admin welcome email was sent
      • When the subscription was created, an alternate email address (not in Microsoft 365) was required.
      • That address received an introductory email containing:
        • The admin user ID (for example, ******@contoso.onmicrosoft.com or ******@contoso.com).
        • The Microsoft 365 sign-in URL.
      • Sign in to that alternate email account and search for Microsoft 365 welcome/introductory messages to find the admin user ID and sign-in URL.
    2. Understand what the admin user ID looks like
      • Admin and user IDs are work or school accounts assigned by the organization, such as:
        • ******@contoso.onmicrosoft.com
        • ******@contoso.edu
        • ******@contoso.com
      • The domain part is either the initial *.onmicrosoft.com domain chosen at signup or a custom domain that was added later (for example, fourthcoffee.onmicrosoft.com******@fourthcoffee.onmicrosoft.com).
    3. Try to locate the account from an installed Office app
      • If Microsoft 365/Office is installed on a PC or Mac that was set up with this subscription:
        1. Open Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
        2. Select File.
        3. Select Account.
        4. Under Product Information, check the account name shown as the licensed user. This is the work or school account associated with the subscription and may be the admin account if only one user was created.
    4. If the username is known but the password is forgotten
      • If the admin account has self-service password reset permission, go to the password reset page listed in the documentation (for example, https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com/) and follow the reset flow.
      • If self-service reset is not enabled, contact another admin in the organization to reset the password.
    5. If no username can be found and there is no other admin
      • If there is no access to the alternate email, no other admins, and the username cannot be recovered using the methods above, contact Microsoft support (for example, via the global customer service numbers) and request help from the Data Protection/Tenant Recovery team to verify ownership and regain access.
