My billing address for my Microsoft Office 365 account continues to be incorrect. It is an address for years ago. The address book has my current address, but the billing each year goes the old one on the receipt. How can this be updated?

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

Was your Microsoft 365 subscription originally purchased in a different country or region?

Microsoft 365 subscription is tied to the country and currency where it was originally purchased. Because of that, the system won’t let you extend the subscription or set up auto-billing using a payment method from your new country.

What you can do instead is cancel your current subscription and wait for it to expire (or you can cancel it early if possible). Once it’s fully expired, you can purchase a new Microsoft 365 subscription using your correct country and billing information.

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

The billing address on the invoice comes from specific billing fields, not from the general address book, so the billing profile or Sold-To/Bill-To address must be updated in the admin/billing area.

Follow these steps depending on the billing account type.

    1. First, confirm billing account type (MCA vs MOSA)
      • Use the steps in "Find out what type of billing account you have" from the billing account documentation referenced in the articles.
    2. If using an MCA (Microsoft Customer Agreement) billing account To fix the address that appears on invoices:
      • Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
      • Navigate to Billing > Billing accounts.
      • Select the relevant billing account.
      • To correct the Sold-To (organization) address that appears on invoices:
        1. In Billing account details, in the Address details or Sold to section, select Update sold to or Edit.
        2. Update the organization address fields (Doing business as, Address, Email, Phone as needed).
        3. Select Save.
      • If the Bill-To address is separate and incorrect:
        1. On the billing account details page, select the Billing profiles tab.
        2. Select the billing profile used for the subscription.
        3. Under Bill-to address, select Edit.
        4. Update the address and select Save.
    3. If using a MOSA (Microsoft Online Services Agreement) billing account For the Bill-To address tied to the payment method:
      • Go to the Microsoft 365 admin center.
      • If using Simplified view: select Billing > View payment methods.
      • If using Dashboard view: go to Billing > Bills & payments and then the Payment methods tab.
      • Select the payment method used for the subscription.
      • Select Edit.
      • Update the address information and select Save > Done.
    4. If the Service Usage address is what appears incorrectly
      • For MCA:
        1. Go to Billing > Billing accounts.
        2. Select the billing account, then the Billing profiles tab.
        3. Select the billing profile.
        4. Under Ship-to address, select Edit, update the address, and Save.
      • For MOSA:
        1. Go to Billing > Your products.
        2. Select the subscription.
        3. In Service usage address, select Edit service usage address.
        4. Update the address and Save.
    5. If the organization profile itself is outdated
      • In the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Billing > Billing accounts.
      • Select the billing account.
      • In Address details, select Update sold to and correct the address, then Save.

Note: The country/region cannot be changed on an existing organization or subscription. If that is what is wrong, a new tenant and subscription are required.

After updating the relevant Sold-To, Bill-To, and/or Service Usage address as above, future invoices should show the correct address.
