Getting charged sales tax in Oregon

Question

I am getting tired of being charged sales tax when I have changed every place I can possibly find for any type of billing. But I'm still being charged after moving out of Tennessee four and a half months ago. I do not want to continue getting answers from the community. I want someone who actually works for Microsoft billing to answer. I can't even figure out if this is where the Microsoft billing dept will see this, but I need someone from billing to contact me. I don't care how you do it, but I need someone to put a stop to this.

To contact Microsoft Support:

1. Visit this site: Contact – Microsoft Support
2. Type Contact in the search box.
3. Now, click on Get Help and select Contact Support or enter below to contact support.
4. Go to the Products & Services tab and choose the Microsoft 365 & Office category.
5. On the Category tab, choose Manage my subscription.
6. Go to Confirm.
7. You can now choose the Chat with a support agent option in your web browser.

Please note that the chat support team only works during certain working hours. Therefore, if the last window indicates that you are unavailable, try opening it again the next day. If you prefer phone support, you can leave a phone number. That way, they can call you and help you.

Sales tax on Microsoft services is based on the service delivery address (where the computer systems being supported or the services are used), not just the credit card billing address. Oregon is listed as a state where Microsoft is currently not obligated to collect state taxes and fees for certain services, while Tennessee has state and local sales tax that can be significantly higher.

If charges are still being taxed as if located in Tennessee, the service delivery/location information on the Microsoft side is likely still set to Tennessee, even if billing details were updated.

To stop being charged Tennessee sales tax and get help from an official Microsoft support agent (not the community):

1. Go to the Microsoft account dashboard and sign in with the account being charged.
2. Use the billing charge investigation flow:
   • Open the Manage your payments page and select Investigate for any unrecognized or incorrect charge. This path routes to official Microsoft account and billing support, not the public community.
3. When connected to support (chat or call-back), explicitly request:
   • Verification and update of the service delivery address for the subscription(s) or services being taxed.
   • Confirmation that the location is now Oregon and that future charges will be taxed according to Oregon rules.
   • Review of recent invoices that still show Tennessee tax and, if applicable, a tax correction or refund according to Microsoft’s billing policies.
4. If help is still needed with Microsoft Store or subscription purchases, use the Get help entry point for home users, which can connect to chat or call support, and if necessary use the regional phone number for the country/region.
