The error 0x800CCC0E when syncing a Gmail account in classic Outlook is typically caused by Gmail not granting Outlook full access, or by IMAP/folder settings in Gmail.
Follow these steps in order:
- Confirm Outlook build and redo Google consent
This issue occurs if, during the Google sign-in in Outlook, the permission
“Read, compose, send, and permanently delete all your email from Gmail.”
was not selected.
- Make sure Outlook is updated to at least Current Channel Version 2412 Build 18324.20168 (or later). See About Office: What version of Office am I using? for version guidance.
- When the error appears in Outlook, use the Retry link in the error window. This will reopen the browser sign-in flow to Google.
- During the Google sign-in, ensure the checkbox for:
“Read, compose, send, and permanently delete all your email from Gmail.”
is selected for Microsoft apps & services.
- Complete sign-in and let Outlook resync.
- Enable IMAP in Gmail
Outlook requires IMAP to be enabled in Gmail:
- In a browser, go to Gmail.com.
- Select Settings (gear icon) > See all settings.
- Go to the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
- Under IMAP Access, select Enable IMAP.
- Select Save Changes.
- Ensure required folders are visible via IMAP
Outlook must be able to see key Gmail folders:
- In Gmail settings, select the Labels tab.
- For Inbox, Sent Mail, Trash, and All Mail, make sure Show in IMAP is selected.
- Optionally enable Show in IMAP for any other labels that should appear in Outlook.
- Refresh Outlook and allow time to sync
- After changing Gmail settings, restart Outlook.
- It can take up to 15 minutes for syncing to refresh.
If the problem persists after these steps, remove the Gmail account from the Outlook profile and add it again, ensuring that during the Google sign-in the full Gmail access permission is granted as described in step 1.
