How do I get help with getting back into my blocked account?

I have my personal e-mail. It is usually on my phone and it has suddenly asked to put in password. It asked to verify and it is my old phone number so I cannot.

I have filled in the form with good information e.g. e-mails of people I have sent them to with the exact e-mail titles. I don't send that many on my personal e-mail but it has all my children's medical info from a previous country that I need for the doctors here but I keep being told the info is not enough and it is blocked.

My access to my mortgage is also linked to this so I'm really stuck - please help!

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

Since you do not have access to your verification method (your recovery phone number) for a password reset, I'm afraid the only way to recover/unblock the account is through the account recovery web form: https://account.live.com/acsr

Important: If you have an active 2FA, ACSR will inform you that your recovery request will be ignored. If you only receive a message that the recovery request is either successful or indicates insufficient information, this means that 2FA is disabled.

You'll need to keep trying until you're verified by Microsoft, and you can do this up to 2 times every 24 hours.

If you didn't receive the results from the account recovery webform, please try submitting another request via Incognito/InPrivate window and using different devices and network services. Then please check your email inbox, junk, and spam folders.

If your Microsoft account recovery request was not granted, please review this link for tips on improving your chances of a successful recovery: https://support.microsoft.com/office/dc56c3e3-dff0-4ed5-8edb-60290eea6b53

Please be advised that Microsoft Support will not be able to assist you with manual recovery, unblock, and escalation for this case, as stated in this article, that they are not permitted to send password resets, access, or even change any details on the account:

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

To regain access to a blocked Outlook.com/Microsoft account in this situation, follow these steps in order and avoid repeated failed attempts, which can extend blocks.

    1. Use the Sign-in Helper first
    • Go to the Sign-in Helper tool: Sign-in Helper.
    • This troubleshooter is the primary entry point for most sign-in and block issues and can route to:
      • Password reset
      • Account unblock
      • Additional support options if available
    1. Check if the account is temporarily blocked
    • If the account is blocked due to unusual activity, use the unblock flow described in Unblock my Outlook.com account:
      • Start from Sign-in Helper as indicated in the article.
      • If prompted, request and enter a security code using any phone that can receive SMS (it does not have to be previously associated with the account; a friend or colleague’s phone can be used). The number is not stored and the code expires after 10 minutes.
    • If the system reports too many attempts or “usage limit exceeded,” stop trying for at least 24 hours. Repeated attempts can reset the timer and prolong the block.
    1. If verification methods are outdated or unavailable
    • If the only verification option is an old phone number and it cannot be used, and normal reset options fail, use the Microsoft account recovery form:
      • Follow the guidance in Help with the Microsoft account recovery form.
      • Ensure there is a working alternate email address (can be a friend/relative or a new Outlook.com address) where Microsoft can contact about the request.
      • Complete the form from a device and location that have been used to sign in before (home or office) to improve recognition.
      • Provide as much accurate detail as possible (past passwords, recent email subjects, contacts, folder names). Microsoft will review and respond, typically within 24 hours.
    1. If the recovery form keeps failing
    • Before submitting again:
      • Wait out any temporary block (at least 24 hours, up to several days if many attempts have been made).
      • Avoid multiple submissions in a short time; excessive attempts can trigger additional blocks.
    • Use the official guidance to refine answers: Help with the Microsoft account recovery form explains how to maximize the chance of success.
    1. If the account is locked and “Next” does not appear
    • If sign-in shows no Next option and indicates the account is locked for suspicious activity or Terms of Use issues:
      • Follow the instructions in Microsoft account has been locked:
        • Select the link in the sign-in window that begins with aka.ms/ and complete the account reinstatement form.
        • Submit the form once and wait for email from Microsoft Online Safety; do not submit multiple requests, as that can slow processing.
    1. When verification codes are blocked or not arriving
    • If seeing “Try another verification method” or similar blocks when requesting codes:
      • Try another verification method tied to the account (alternate email instead of SMS, or vice versa) if available.
      • Try another network (switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data, or use a different Wi‑Fi network).
      • Wait at least 24 hours without repeated attempts if a temporary block is suspected.
      • Use the dedicated troubleshooter: Start.
    1. If none of the above works
    • For consumer Microsoft accounts, support agents cannot bypass security or reset the account without successful verification via the automated processes. The only supported paths are:
      • Sign-in Helper
      • Account recovery form
      • Account reinstatement form (if locked for suspicious activity/Terms of Use)

Because access to medical and financial information depends on this account, it is important to:

    • Stop repeated sign-in and recovery attempts for at least 24 hours to clear temporary blocks.
    • Then carefully retry using:
      1. Sign-in Helper
      2. If needed, the Account recovery form from a familiar device/location with maximum detail
      3. If indicated as locked, the account reinstatement link starting with aka.ms/ shown on the sign-in page
