Unable to Access C Drive and Fingerprint Not Working After Installing Security Update KB5079473 on Samsung Laptop

After installing the 2026-03 Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB5079473) (Build 26200.8037), almost all apps on my PC have stopped working. This includes Microsoft Office, Samsung apps, Calculator, PrintScreen, Snipping Tool, Notepad, and several other applications.

The fingerprint login option has completely disappeared, and I am unable to log in using fingerprint anymore.

In addition, the update cannot be rolled back or uninstalled. I am also unable to open Command Prompt as Administrator, and it seems that administrator rights for resetting or restoring the PC are no longer available.

These issues started immediately after installing the update. The system has become extremely difficult to use because many core functions and applications are no longer working.

I am currently using a Samsung Galaxy Book 4 laptop.

I would appreciate urgent guidance on how to restore administrator access, fix the broken applications, recover the fingerprint login option, or safely remove the update KB5079473.

    Hi, good day!

You're not alone as several users experiencing the same problem affecting some Samsung laptops. Microsoft is actively reviewing the issue and working with Samsung to determine the root cause. Please try the workaround below until Microsoft releases an official patch fix.

Make sure you sign-in using a Windows account with Administrator privileges

Open File Explorer > Right click on C: drive

Select Properties > Security > Advanced > Change

On the text box, type Everyone

    Click Check Names

Tick the option to replace the owner on subcontainers and objects

Click Change and type and select the "Everyone" option again

    Click OK and Apply

When prompted for any warning messages, just click Enter to continue with the process until the full scan of your C drive is complete

    Once finish, restart your computer

Delete any files from the recycle bin if prompted.

I look forward to receiving your update and I'm willing to collaborate with you till we resolve the issue. Do keep me informed by clicking "Add comment" below.
