If the 24H2 (repair version) update is appearing in the Windows updates section, that indicates Windows has found problems with the Windows system and it is trying to repair itself using that update.

If that update is failing, then the best option is to perform an in-place repair with the Windows 11 ISO.

Please ensure you download the ISO in the same language as you use for the Windows UI, follow the steps, this is then not like re-installing Windows, it is just like an update and your personal files, settings and installed software will not be affected.

    Click this link:

to download the Windows 11 ISO

When the ISO file completes downloading

    Disconnect from the Internet

Disconnect all external devices with the exception of a mouse or keyboard.

Temporarily disable any 3rd party Anti-virus you may have installed

Then, in Windows File Explorer, double click the ISO and then run Setup.exe and select the Install option.

Very Important - ensure you select the option to keep your files and apps.

Error 0x80070002 during update means “The system cannot find the file specified.” For Windows 11 updates, including Defender intelligence updates and 24H2 repair/feature updates, use these supported steps:

    1. Run advanced Windows Update repair commands
      1. Open the search box on the taskbar, type command prompt.
      2. Right‑click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator, then Yes.
      3. Run these commands one by one, pressing Enter after each and waiting for completion:
              net stop bits
              net stop wuauserv
              ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak
              ren %systemroot%\System32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
              net start bits
              net start wuauserv

      4. Close Command Prompt and restart the PC.
      5. After restart, go to Settings > Windows Update and try checking for updates again (both Defender and Windows 11, version 24H2 repair).
    2. Check for conflicting disks (for 0x80070002 during upgrade/repair) If the 0x80070002 error appears when attempting a repair/upgrade to Windows 11, version 24H2, and there are additional disks connected that are not the target system drive, disconnect those extra disks (for example, secondary internal drives or external USB drives) and retry the repair/update.
    3. Temporarily remove third‑party security software Third‑party antivirus or security tools can interfere with both Defender intelligence updates and OS repair updates.
      1. Uninstall any non‑Microsoft antivirus/security software temporarily.
      2. Restart the PC.
      3. Run Settings > Windows Update again and attempt the Defender update and 24H2 repair.
      4. After the system is fully updated, reinstall compatible security software if needed.
    4. Repair disk errors
      1. Open Command Prompt as administrator again.
      2. Run:
              chkdsk /f C:

      3. Approve the schedule for next restart if prompted, then restart so disk repairs can run.
      4. After repairs complete and Windows loads, try Windows Update again.

If the 24H2 repair/update still fails after these steps and the device is otherwise healthy, perform a Windows 11 in‑place repair/upgrade using current installation media while keeping files and apps, then re‑run Windows Update.
