    Hello,

Did you remove the friend’s account from Settings, Accounts, Family and other users, or only from Email and accounts?

In Windows 10 Home, the sign in screen shows local user profiles saved on the device. If the profile still exists, the name stays on the startup screen. Open Settings, Accounts, Family and other users, select the friend’s account, then choose Remove. Restart the PC after removal so Windows refreshes the sign in screen. The startup list comes from user profiles stored on the device, so removing the profile removes the account from startup.

If the Microsoft account was removed in Settings but still appears on startup, remove it from all relevant account locations and, if needed, switch the sign‑in account type.

    1. Confirm the account is removed as a user on the PC
      1. Open Settings.
      2. Go to Accounts > Other users.
      3. If the friend’s account is listed, select its flyout.
      4. Select Remove next to Account and data.
        • This removes their sign‑in and data from the device but does not delete their Microsoft account.
    2. Remove the account from “Access work or school” / “Email & accounts”
      1. Open Settings.
      2. Go to Accounts > Access work or school.
        • If the friend’s account is listed, select it and choose Disconnect, then confirm.
      3. Still in Accounts, go to Email & accounts.
        • If the friend’s Microsoft account is listed under Accounts used by email, calendar, and contacts, select it and choose Manage or Remove (or equivalent option) and follow the prompts.
    3. Make sure Windows is not using the friend’s Microsoft account as the main sign‑in
      • If the current Windows sign‑in is that friend’s Microsoft account and a local account is preferred instead:
        1. Open Settings.
        2. Go to Accounts > Your info.
        3. Use Sign in with a local account instead (if available) and follow the prompts to create and switch to a local account.
        4. Sign out and sign back in with the new local account.
        5. Then repeat step 1 to remove the friend’s account from Other users if it still appears.

After these steps, the friend’s Microsoft account should no longer appear as an option at startup.
