Hi,

My name is Monica OLIVEIRA. I have been locked out of my hotmail account since 5 March. I use this account for work and am trying to get Microsoft services to verify me for more than 10 days already. Nothing seems to work, I filled in the form three times already.

Blocked email account: ******@hotmail.com

I travel often for work and use the account from different geographic locations. Probably the cause of this issue.

I URGENTLY need to regain access to my account, or I will lose my job.

Microsoft team, can anyone help me?

Kind regards,
Monica OLIVEIRA

Hi! Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with this. Please fill out this form: https://www.microsoft.com/digitalsafety/account-reinstatement

This is different from the account recovery form, since it is specifically used for accounts that have been blocked due to suspicious activity.

The account is almost certainly blocked due to unusual or suspicious sign-in activity (for example, many sign-ins from different geographic locations). When this happens, Microsoft’s automated security systems can lock the account and also rate-limit or block verification attempts and recovery submissions.

Based on the documented behavior, the only available options are:

    1. Wait out the lockout and avoid repeated attempts
    • Too many failed sign-ins, password resets, or recovery-form submissions can extend or reset the lockout period.
    • Stop all sign-in, password-reset, and recovery-form attempts for at least 24 hours. If the problem persists, wait longer (up to about a week) before trying again.
    1. Use the official unblock and sign-in tools
    • Use the Outlook.com unblock flow via the Sign-in Helper: Sign-in Helper.
    • If the account is blocked, follow the prompts there to verify identity and unblock the account.
    1. Use the Microsoft account recovery form correctly
    • If sign-in and unblock flows fail, use the Microsoft Account Recovery form (ACSR) as described in the referenced guidance.
    • Submit the form from a device and network commonly used with the account (same country/region, home/office network if possible).
    • Provide as many accurate details as possible (old passwords, frequent contacts, recent subject lines, etc.).
    • If the form is rejected or the daily limit is reached, wait until the next day before submitting again. Do not submit it repeatedly within the same lockout window.
    1. Try different network, browser, or device
    • If verification codes or reset flows are failing, try:
      • A different browser or InPrivate/Incognito window.
      • Clearing browser cache/cookies.
      • A different network (for example, switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data) to avoid issues tied to a specific IP or region.
    1. If still blocked after waiting and using the tools
    • For consumer Outlook.com/Hotmail accounts, all unblocking and recovery is handled by the automated systems. Forum moderators and standard support agents cannot manually override or bypass these protections.
    • If the Sign-in Helper and recovery form continue to fail after the recommended waiting periods, continue to retry periodically using the same official flows; there is no alternative manual override path documented for personal Hotmail/Outlook.com accounts.

Because this is a work-critical mailbox, it is also advisable to:

    • Inform the employer or IT department that the personal Hotmail account is locked and cannot be guaranteed for business use.
    • Use an alternative, accessible email account for urgent work communication while recovery is in progress.
