The account is temporarily locked after too many sign-in attempts to protect it from suspicious activity.

To regain access to an Outlook.com / Microsoft account:

    1. Go to the Microsoft account page: https://account.microsoft.com and try to sign in.
    2. When prompted, request a security code and choose a phone number that can receive text messages.
      • Any phone number can be used; it does not need to be already associated with the account and does not need to be a smartphone.
    3. Enter the security code received by SMS.
    4. If prompted, create a new, strong password for the account.

If the account is specifically blocked for Outlook.com usage, use the Sign-in Helper flow:

    1. Open the Sign-in Helper: https://aka.ms/sign-in-helper.
    2. Follow the prompts to verify identity and unblock the Outlook.com account.

If sign-in or unblocking still fails after many attempts, wait at least 24 hours without trying to sign in or reset again, then retry the steps above. Repeated attempts during the lockout window can extend the lockout.

If the account shows as locked due to suspicious activity or Terms of Use violations and there is no “Next” option when signing in, use the aka.ms link shown on the lock screen to submit the account reinstatement form and wait for email from Microsoft Online Safety support.

If none of these options work, use the Microsoft account sign-in helper links provided in the documentation to troubleshoot further sign-in issues.
