Change the IMAP and folder settings in Gmail, then refresh Outlook.
- Enable IMAP in Gmail
- In a browser, go to Gmail.
- Select Settings (gear icon) > See all settings.
- Open the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
- Under IMAP access, select Enable IMAP.
- Select Save Changes.
- Ensure folders are visible over IMAP
- Still in Gmail Settings, open the Labels tab.
- For Inbox, Sent Mail, Trash, and All Mail, make sure Show in IMAP is selected.
- Optionally select Show in IMAP for any other labels that should appear in Outlook.
- Verify IMAP/SMTP settings in Outlook (if using manual setup)
Use these values in Outlook if prompted:
- Incoming mail (IMAP) server:
imap.gmail.com, SSL required, Port 993 - Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:
smtp.gmail.com, SSL required, TLS required if available- Port for SSL: 465
- Port for TLS/STARTTLS: 587
- Username: full Gmail address
- Password: Gmail password
- Incoming mail (IMAP) server:
- Refresh Outlook
- After changing Gmail settings, wait a few minutes and then refresh/sync Outlook so it reconnects using IMAP.
If the error persists after these changes, remove the Gmail account from Outlook and add it again so it picks up the corrected IMAP configuration.
