Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Microsoft 365 Office Home 2024 and Microsoft 365 Family are different products, and they are paid for in different ways.
- Office Home 2024 (one-time purchase)
- This is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
- Paid once (for example, $149.99) and can be used on one PC or Mac.
- Includes classic Office apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Receives security updates but no new feature upgrades to future versions.
- There is no yearly payment for this license.
- Microsoft 365 Family (subscription)
- This is a recurring subscription (monthly or yearly).
- Includes the latest versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and on PC also Access and Publisher.
- Can be installed on multiple devices and shared with up to 5 other people.
- Includes 1 TB of cloud storage per user and ongoing feature updates and AI-powered features like Copilot.
- The $129.99 amount is likely the yearly subscription price and will renew every year unless canceled.
What is being paid for now
- The Office Home 2024 payment in August 2025 is a one-time cost already paid; there is no ongoing yearly fee for that product.
- The Microsoft 365 Family payment in March 2026 is a subscription and will renew every year (or month, depending on the plan) at its current price unless canceled.
Is payment required twice a year?
- No ongoing payment is required for Office Home 2024.
- Ongoing payment is only for Microsoft 365 Family.
- If Microsoft 365 Family is kept active, payment will be made once per subscription period (usually once per year) for that plan only.
To see exact renewal dates and prices or to cancel the Microsoft 365 Family subscription, sign in to the Microsoft account used for that subscription and check the Services/Subscriptions page.
