DISTRIBUTION LISTS ARE BLOCKED FROM BEING SENT

Outlook keeps blocking my distribution lists when I try to email them out claiming it could be spam.

I have repeatedly said they are not spam.

I send important bulk emails that need to go out to the members of the orchid society that I belong to.

This is so annoying and time wasting for me.

    Hi, I'm John!

What exact message or error do you see when it blocks the email?

If you're getting Limit error. This can happen if the system detects unusual activity, or if your account hasn’t been fully verified.

Can I ask if you’re using Outlook with a personal Microsoft account or through a work/school account?

For personal accounts, the best place to start is making sure your account is fully verified, check that your security info (like your phone number or alternate email) is up to date at https://account.microsoft.com Once that’s done, the limits often lift within 24 hours.

If it’s a work or school account, you may need to reach out to your IT admin since they control sending limits for your organization.

For more detailed guidance please see "How can I increase sending limits?" section here: https://support.microsoft.com/office/sending-limits-in-outlook-com-279ee200-594c-40f0-9ec8-bb6af7735c2e

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

Configure the Junk Email Filter so Outlook treats the orchid society distribution list as a trusted recipient instead of spam.

In classic Outlook for Windows, add the list to the Safe Recipients list:

    1. Open Outlook.
    2. Find any message that was sent to your orchid society distribution list (or create a new message addressed to that list and save it).
    3. Select that message in your Inbox or Sent Items.
    4. On the Home tab, in the Delete group, select Junk (or Block in some builds).
    5. Select Never Block the Group or Mailing List.
      • This adds the distribution list address to the Safe Recipients list so messages sent to that address are not treated as junk.

To check or add it manually:

    1. On the Home tab, in the Delete group, select Junk > Junk E-mail Options.
    2. Go to the Safe Recipients tab.
    3. Select Add.
    4. In Enter an e-mail address or Internet domain name to be added to the list, type the full address of the orchid society distribution list (for example, orchidsociety@example.org).
    5. Select OK, then Apply.

If the mailbox is hosted on Exchange or Exchange Online and messages still go to Junk even after adding the list, contact the email service administrator, because server-side filtering can override Outlook’s local Safe Senders/Recipients lists.
