Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

With Microsoft 365 Family, you don’t actually “add a device.” You just sign in to the apps on that device using the Microsoft account that has the subscription (or the account you shared it with).

Once signed in, the apps should recognize the subscription automatically.

If issue persists, to help narrow down the issue:

    1. Are you the owner of the Microsoft 365 Family plan, or were you invited by someone else?
    2. When you sign in on the iPhone or iPad, does it ask you to buy a subscription or does it show another error?

    Regards,

    John J.D.

To add an iPhone and iPad to a Microsoft 365 Family subscription, install the Microsoft 365 apps on each device and sign in with an account that is part of the Family plan. There is no separate “device add” step; devices are associated automatically when signing in.

Follow these steps for each device (iPhone and iPad):

    1. On the device, open the App Store.
    2. Install the apps desired, for example:
      • Outlook (for email, calendar, contacts)
      • Microsoft 365 Copilot app (which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote setup)
      • OneDrive, Skype for Business (if needed)
    3. Open each app and sign in using the Microsoft account that has the Microsoft 365 Family subscription, or a family member account that the subscription has been shared with.
    4. Once signed in, the device is effectively “added” to the subscription and can use the Microsoft 365 features allowed by the plan.

    For Outlook email on iPhone:

    1. Go to the App Store, search for Outlook, and install it.
    2. Open Outlook, tap Get Started, and allow notifications if desired.
    3. On Add Account, enter the Microsoft 365 email address and tap Add Account.
    4. Enter the password and tap Sign in.
    5. Optionally add more accounts or tap Maybe Later.

For Word/Excel/PowerPoint/OneNote on iPhone or iPad:

    1. Install the Microsoft 365 Copilot/Office apps from the App Store.
    2. Open the app and sign in with the Microsoft 365 Family subscription account.

Note: A Microsoft 365 Family subscription can be shared with multiple people; each person signs in on their own devices. The type of subscription determines which mobile apps and features are available.
