To move from a Microsoft 365 subscription to a lower-cost Microsoft 365 Basic plan, the steps depend on whether the new plan has more or fewer features than what is currently used.

Because Microsoft 365 Basic has fewer features than Microsoft 365 Personal/Family/Premium (it does not include installable desktop apps), switching to Basic is treated as switching to a plan with fewer features.

Follow these steps:

1. Go to the Services & subscriptions page and sign in with the Microsoft account used for the current subscription: https://account.microsoft.com/services
2. On the Subscriptions tab, find the current Microsoft 365 subscription and select Manage.
3. Select Cancel subscription.
4. On the Cancel page, choose the lower-feature plan that fits the needs (for example, Microsoft 365 Basic) if it is offered as an option.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the switch.

Notes:

• The existing subscription continues until it expires; it automatically changes to the new lower-cost plan at renewal.
• Charges for the new plan begin when the subscription renews into that plan.
