Verifying account

So I know the password to my account but when having to verify it I can’t use the phone # of email associated. When I go through the steps on retrieving access I fill out every possible step. I use 4 recent sent emails/subject lines, x box information and credit card. All is accurate but it still sends back an email to my trusted address saying it needs more information, there is no more information I could possibly give and need access back.

I would suggest typing it as ‘regarding work’ for a more accurate response.

Also, it can be either, but it would be best to provide a recent email for each new contact if possible.

Please check this guidance notes for more information on how to fill out the form: https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/guidance-notes-for-the-microsoft-account-recovery-form-4dd8fef1-33d2-4fbe-9352-66127ab9b50e

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

If you do not have access to your verification method (your recovery phone number) for a password reset, I'm afraid the only way to recover/verify the account is through the account recovery web form: https://account.live.com/acsr

Important: If you have an active 2FA, ACSR will inform you that your recovery request will be ignored. If you only receive a message that the recovery request is either successful or indicates insufficient information, this means that 2FA is disabled.

You'll need to keep trying until you're verified by Microsoft, and you can do this up to 2 times every 24 hours.

If you didn't receive the results from the account recovery webform, please try submitting another request via Incognito/InPrivate window and using different devices and network services. Then please check your email inbox, junk, and spam folders.

If your Microsoft account recovery request was not granted, please review this link for tips on improving your chances of a successful recovery: https://support.microsoft.com/office/dc56c3e3-dff0-4ed5-8edb-60290eea6b53

Please be advised that Microsoft Support will not be able to assist you with manual recovery, unblock, and escalation for this case, as stated in this article, that they are not permitted to send password resets, access, or even change any details on the account:

    Thank you for your understanding.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

For a consumer Microsoft/Outlook.com account, once all automated checks decide that the information provided is not sufficient, there is no additional manual override or extra information that can be supplied beyond the official recovery paths.

Key points and options based on current behavior:

    1. If two-step verification is ON and no security methods work
    • When two-step verification has been turned on and none of the alternate methods (phone, email, authenticator) can be used to receive a verification code, support agents are not allowed to reset the password or change security info.
    • In this situation, there is no way for support to bypass the verification requirement or grant access.

    From the documentation:

If you have turned on two-step verification and cannot access any of the alternate methods to get a verification, we cannot help you. To protect your account and its contents, our support agents are not allowed to send password reset links, or access and change account details.

    1. If two-step verification is NOT ON and the verification options are not recognized
    • If two-step verification is not enabled and the phone/email options shown during reset are not recognized, the guidance is to use the Sign-in Helper tool first, and then the Microsoft account recovery form if needed.
    • The recovery form is intentionally strict; if the system replies that more information is needed, it means the automated checks did not find the answers strong enough to prove ownership.

    From the documentation:

    • Use the Sign-in Helper tool first: Sign-in Helper.
    • If that does not resolve it, complete the account recovery form as fully as possible. Microsoft will review and respond within 24 hours.
    1. When the recovery form keeps failing The recovery form is the final automated method. If it repeatedly says “need more information,” the system is not convinced the account is yours. There is no additional hidden form or manual escalation for consumer Microsoft accounts beyond:
    • Waiting out any temporary lockouts or blocks (for example, after too many attempts).
    • Trying again later from a familiar device and location, with as much accurate historical detail as possible (old passwords, folder names, frequent contacts, exact subject lines, etc.).

If those attempts still fail, access to that account cannot be restored.

    1. If the phone/email on file is wrong or inaccessible
    • When trying to sign in and verification is requested, if none of the listed phone/email options are usable, select I don't have any of these and follow the prompts. This is the only supported way to update backup security info when locked out of existing methods.
    1. If the account itself might be compromised
    • If there is suspicion that someone else changed the security info and locked out access, the same recovery form and Sign-in Helper are still the only supported paths. Support cannot override them.

In summary: if two-step verification is enabled and none of the security methods work, or if the recovery form continues to fail after multiple detailed attempts, the account cannot be recovered and a new Microsoft account must be created for future use.
