Best option for replacing alcantara on surface laptop

My surface laptop (the first model) is about 8 years old. It's still working - the best laptop I've ever had! However, the alacantara is peeling and looks really ugly. What can I do to fix this? Can I replace it? Or should I cover it with a skin? Any recommendations please?

Alcantara on Surface devices is not designed to be user-replaceable, and there is no official Alcantara re-cover or replacement kit for the original Surface Laptop. The supported options are:

1. Clean and refresh the existing Alcantara
   • For regular care, wipe it with a lint-free white cloth dampened with a mild soap and water solution or a screen cleaning wipe.
