My storage drive is basically maxed out, and after I restarted my PC I can’t even log in anymore. Kinda stuck rn and tbh I’ve got no clue what I’m supposed to do next. Anyone know a quick fix so I can get back into my computer?User's image

    Hi Jimmy X,

When Windows 10 cannot load a user profile, one common cause is that the system drive has run out of space, preventing the profile service from initializing properly.

The first step I recommend is to boot into Safe Mode. From there, you can try freeing up space by deleting temporary files or moving large files to an external drive. Once you’ve cleared some space, restart the system normally and see if the profile loads. If Safe Mode doesn’t let you in, you can also use the Advanced Startup Options (hold Shift while clicking Restart) to access troubleshooting tools.

Another option is to create a new local administrator account from Safe Mode or the recovery environment. This will allow you to log in and then move your files from the old profile. Sometimes the profile itself becomes corrupted when the disk is full, and creating a new one is the quickest way forward.

If you’re comfortable with command line tools, you can also use the Disk Cleanup utility or run commands like **cleanmgr** to clear space. Once you have at least a few gigabytes free, Windows should be able to load your profile again.

I hope the response provided some helpful insight. If it clarified the issue for you, please consider marking it as Accept Answer so others with the same issue can find the solution.

    Jason.

The disk being full can prevent the user profile from loading. Use an admin or built‑in Administrator account to sign in, free space, then return to the normal account.

    1. Check if Windows is logging in with a temporary profile
      • On the sign‑in screen, if any other account is available (for example, Administrator), sign in with it.
      • In that session, select Start > Settings > Accounts > Sync your settings.
      • If a message appears saying You are logged on with a temporary profile. Roaming options are currently unavailable, restart the device and sign in again. This can restore access to the original profile.
    2. Enable the built‑in Administrator account if no other account works
      • At the sign‑in screen, hold Shift and select Power > Restart.
      • Keep holding Shift until Choose an option appears.
      • Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
      • From Command Prompt, start Computer Management and enable the built‑in Administrator account as described:
        1. In the search box (when back in Windows later), type computer management and open the Computer Management desktop app.
        2. In the left pane, select Local Users and Groups > Users.
        3. If the Administrator account has a down arrow on its icon, double‑click it, clear Account is disabled, and select Apply.
      • Restart and sign in using the Administrator account.
    3. Free disk space so the profile can load While signed in as Administrator (or another working account):
      • Press Windows key + E, select This PC, and confirm the system drive is almost full.
      • Delete or move personal files (videos, music, photos, documents) from the full drive to an external USB drive or another internal drive.
      • Turn on Storage Sense to automatically remove temporary files:
        • Select Start > Settings > System > Storage and turn on Storage Sense.
      • Optionally, use Cleanup recommendations in Storage to remove temporary files and unused apps.
    4. Prevent the issue from returning
      • Move more personal data off the system drive to external or secondary storage.
      • Configure new files to save to another drive:
        • Select Start > Settings > System > Storage > Advanced storage settings > Where new content is saved, then choose a different drive for documents, music, pictures, and videos.
      • Consider enabling OneDrive Files On‑Demand so only placeholders are stored locally.

After freeing sufficient space, sign out of the Administrator account and sign back into the original account; the profile should load normally once enough free space is available.
