This issue has been widely reported, and Microsoft is currently working on a fix and plan to release the patch as soon as possible.

In the meantime, if you are experiencing this issue with Outlook Classic, try accessing your Gmail account using the web browser version of Outlook.

Also, until a patch is released for the Outlook Gmail account issue, please check out the solutions provided by Microsoft via this link.

    IT WORKS !!

So So Sorry all I got excited .... I didn't take screenshots so sorry. But this I think are the steps took all of <2mins to fix ...

When I opened my Outlook Classic 2021 desktop app <30mins ago 3/22/26 11:30am PST I saw it had had a new "yellowish in color" bar display under the quick access toolbar (leftside) just above my email folders. So Sorry all...it said something ...what was it? Something about clicking to the next step to sync my folders ...so sorry can't remember.

When I went to the next step it had this "like display" below (not sure if the same just using as an example) When I CHECKED IT then continued to the next step. The final result ....My out of Sync Gmail E-mail address (PW change <1week ago) starting to update with the last weeks of emails. I tested it by sending a test text message to that same Gmail "itself" and to my other email address & IT WORKED !.

PLEASE IT YOU GET OPTION PLEASE REMEMBER TO TAKE SCREENSHOTS FOR OTHERS ..... don't get excited 🤪.

MS apps & services wants access check box

Gmail PW Change same like issue - I needed to change master Gmail PW on an older chromebook to enter it >4days ago. Now on my Windows 11 desktop that same master Gmail e-mail acct won't sync when I open the Outlook Classic 2021 app. Because I have desktop Windows 11 the "settings display for Google web search-engine" (I always manual update 2-3X a week both Win11 & Chrome) are different listed under third-party apps and services I'm unable to find "Generate PW" (16-characters) like before on Win10. This step was standard basic whenever I changed a Gmail PW.

Also, after 3-days of research my issue is within the Outlook 2021 Classic app that I have several >6ea Gmail accts, 1ea yahoo acct & 1ea outlook acct. & I'm not sure I have readily available all the PW's to all these accts. So I guess I'll just log-in to the web for my 1ea Master Gmail acct and still use Outlook Classic 2021 app for all my other accts until a fix I just used so much time researching for a fix/work around for hours a day..... nothing.

Side note: Ai Answer - now within "Credential Manager" (see below) that I'm not sure if I should delete all the listings for MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2 will that remove all my other working Gmail accts? then what?

Classic Outlook recently had known issues connecting to Gmail due to changes in Google authentication and Outlook’s IMAP sign-in flow. When this happens, Gmail that worked previously can suddenly stop syncing or fail to add.

Use these steps that match the documented fixes and workarounds:

    1. Update Classic Outlook to a fixed build
Ensure Outlook is on a build that contains the Gmail sign-in fix:
      • Current Channel: Version 2404 (Build 17531.10000) or later for the sign-in window fix.
      • For the specific IMAP permission issue, Current Channel Version 2412 Build 18324.20168 or later adds a Retry option.
        After updating Office, restart Outlook.
    2. Retry the Gmail sign-in with full permissions
If an error appears such as:
      • “We couldn’t log on to the incoming (POP/IMAP) server…” or
      • “We weren’t able to set up your Google account with IMAP. You may need to make changes to your Gmail settings.”
On the error dialog in Outlook, select Retry. In the browser window that opens for Google sign-in, make sure to check the box: “Read, compose, send, and permanently delete all your email from Gmail.” This permission is required for Outlook to access Gmail via IMAP.
    3. If Retry does not work, use the manual workaround Step 1: Remove Microsoft apps & services access in Google
      1. Close Outlook.
      2. Sign in to the Gmail/Google account at google.com.
      3. Select the profile picture → Manage your Google Account.
      4. Go to Security.
      5. Under Your connections to third-party apps & services, select Microsoft apps & services.
      6. Find Microsoft apps & services has some access to your Google Account → See Details.
      7. Under Access you've given to Microsoft apps & services, select Remove all access.
      8. Confirm.
Step 2: Clear the Gmail OAuth credentials from Windows
      1. Open Credential Manager from the Start menu (or via Control Panel on Windows 10).
      2. Select Windows Credentials.
      3. Under Generic Credentials, find entries starting with MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2.
      4. Expand each and hover over the name to see the full value including tp_google_imap_Oauth2 – these are the Gmail credentials.
      5. Remove each credential that includes MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2 for Gmail (there are typically two per Gmail account).
After this, reopen Outlook and add/sign in to the Gmail account again. When the Google consent screen appears, ensure the Gmail permission “Read, compose, send, and permanently delete all your email from Gmail.” is selected.
    4. If you see “browser or app may not be secure” or IMAP errors
These are also part of the same known issue. The fix is included in the builds listed above. After updating Outlook and redoing the sign-in as described, Gmail should start working again.

If Gmail still does not sync after these steps, verify in Gmail settings (via a web browser) that IMAP is enabled if that control is still present for the account, as missing IMAP can also cause the “We weren’t able to set up your Google account with IMAP” error.
