Google calendar disappeared from work Outlook account and I can't get it back

I have the same problem as [PII: Removed] posted on January 19, but for my work Outlook account where I had a "show only" view of my private google calendar merged with my Outlook work calendar, using iCal address. This worked until somewhere in January-February when it suddenly disappeared. I have responded to the same questions you posed to [PII: Removed], see below.

  1. Before it disappeared, could you create/edit Google Calendar events in Outlook and have them sync back to Google?
    My response: No.
  2. In Outlook, do you see it listed under Calendar > Other Calendars, or under File > Account Settings > Account Settings > Internet Calendars?
My response: It is not listed under Calendar > Other Calendars anymore but was before, even a while after it stopped working. Under account settings it is listed as pending.
  3. Is this a personal Gmail account or a Google Workspace (work/school) account?
    My response: Work account.
  4. When you go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings, do you see your Google account listed in the Email tab, or only in the Internet Calendars tab?
My response: I only have the private Internet calendar in Outlook and not my private e-mail account, i.e. I only see it in the Internet Calendars tab.

I completed your recommended step 1-3 in the[PII: Removed] thread (see below) without success. Trying step 4, I could import my Ical code in my other, private, Outlook account without any problem. That private account is the one I used for registering my profile here, because my work account doesn't allow me to register here (governmental authority with high security standards). But I cannot try with another work account.

See your recommended steps summarized below:
1) Remove the stuck “Pending” subscription****2) Reset Outlook’s Navigation Pane (clears cached references)

3) Re-add the calendar using a fresh iCal link

4) If it’s still stuck, test with a new Outlook profile

I hope there is some way to get this working again with my original work account.

Best regards [PII: Removed]

    Hi @Mia

Based on what you described, this behavior aligns with a service side change affecting Internet Calendars (iCal subscriptions) in Outlook for Windows, particularly when the subscription is added to a work account and sourced from Google Workspace.

Because this involves Exchange Online behavior for work accounts, my recommendation would be to have your IT administrator open a Microsoft Support ticket on your behalf by following this article: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn so that the support agent can investigate further regarding to the issue.

Note: Please understand that as a forum moderator, my primary goal is to provide helpful guidance and support through general troubleshooting steps. While I don’t have access to internal systems or test devices required to resolve backend/account issues, I truly appreciate your understanding of these limitations.

I understand this is frustrating, especially since this workflow worked reliably before and stopped without any change on your side. If anything is unclear, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

    Hi Mia

    Please confirm:

    • Is your mailbox a Microsoft 365 / Exchange Online work account (i.e., can you access Outlook on the web Calendar) ?
    • In Outlook on the web, do you see the Add personal calendars > Google option available?

I would love to hear from you soon. Have a lovely day!

The behavior matches a broken or blocked Internet Calendar (iCal) subscription in classic Outlook. The iCal link itself is still valid (it works in the private Outlook profile), so the issue is specific to the work profile and how Outlook/Exchange now handles that subscription.

From the available information, the only supported ways to see a Google calendar in Outlook are:

    1. Classic Outlook Internet Calendar subscription (what was used before)
    2. Importing a static .ics snapshot into Outlook
    3. Connecting the Google account as a personal calendar in Outlook on the web (for Microsoft 365 work/school accounts)

Given that the classic Internet Calendar subscription is stuck in “Pending” and cannot be made to work again in that profile, the supported alternatives are:

    1. Use Outlook on the web with a connected Google calendar
      • Sign in to the work or school account in Outlook on the web.
      • Go to CalendarAdd calendar.
      • Select Add personal calendars.
      • Choose Google and sign in with the Google account credentials.
      • After the connection completes, the Google calendar appears in the navigation pane and its events are included in availability for Scheduling Assistant.
      • This connection is view-and-manage, and is the supported way to keep a live, updating Google calendar alongside the work calendar for work/school accounts.
    2. Use a static import into classic Outlook (no ongoing sync)
      • In Google Calendar, export or copy the calendar as an .ics file.
      • In classic Outlook, select FileOpen & ExportImport/Export.
      • Choose Import an iCalendar (.ics) or vCalendar file (.vcs)Next.
      • Select the .ics file and choose Open as New or import into an existing calendar.
      • This gives a one-time snapshot; to update, a new export/import is required.
    3. If the organization allows it, re-add the Internet Calendar in classic Outlook (if not blocked)
      • In Google Calendar, under Settings and sharingIntegrate calendar, copy the Secret address in iCal format URL.
      • In classic Outlook, open the Outlook calendar, then on the Home tab select Add CalendarFrom Internet.
      • Paste the iCal URL and select OK, then Yes to subscribe.
      • If this fails or remains in “Pending” only in the work profile while working elsewhere, it typically indicates a policy or server-side change in the work environment that cannot be bypassed from the client.

If the iCal subscription continues to show as “Pending” only in the work account, and the same iCal URL works in another Outlook profile, the remaining options are:

    • Use Outlook on the web with Add personal calendars to connect the Google account directly.
    • Use a static .ics import into classic Outlook.
    • Contact the organization’s IT/Exchange administrator to confirm whether Internet Calendar subscriptions or external iCal URLs have been restricted or changed for that mailbox; if so, only the admin can restore that capability.

There is no additional client-side setting in classic Outlook, beyond removing/re-adding the Internet Calendar and testing with a new profile, that can override a server or policy change.
