The email address used as the sign-in name or administrator for a Microsoft account or service can be changed, but it cannot be done by support on behalf of the account owner. It must be updated in the account settings.
To stop the old email from being used and make the Gmail address the main one for Microsoft sign-in:
- Go to Manage how you sign in to your account: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?linkid=842796 and sign in with the Microsoft account that currently uses the comcast.net address.
- Under Account username / Account aliases, add the Gmail address as an alias if it is not already listed.
- After the Gmail address is added and verified, select Make primary next to the Gmail address so it becomes the main sign-in email.
- Once the Gmail address is the primary alias, select Remove next to the old comcast.net alias to delete it from the account.
- If the comcast.net address is currently the primary alias, it must be changed to another primary alias (the Gmail) before it can be removed.
If the comcast.net or Gmail address is also set up as a security verification method (for work or school accounts):
- Go to https://myaccount.microsoft.com and sign in.
- Select Security info.
- If the comcast.net address appears under Email, select Delete next to it and confirm.
- If needed, add the Gmail address as a new Email method using Add method → Email, then verify it with the code sent to that address.
These changes affect how Microsoft services recognize the account and where verification codes are sent. For the printer sign-in issue, ensure that wherever the printer or its companion app asks for a Microsoft account, the updated primary email (Gmail) is used after completing the steps above.
