How do change the form of payment to a different account?

Answer 1

To change the form of payment to a different account for a Microsoft 365/Office subscription or other Microsoft purchases, update or replace the payment method on the Microsoft account.

For a personal Microsoft account (home use):

1. Go to the Payment options page: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments and sign in.
2. To update an existing card (same account, new details):
   • Find the payment method to change and select View or edit card.
   • Update the name, billing address, expiration date, or CVV, then select Save.
3. To use a different card or account instead:
   • On the same Payment options page, select Add a new payment method and enter the new card or bank details.
   • After adding it, assign this new payment method to the relevant subscriptions or purchases (for subscriptions, this is done in the Services & subscriptions area of the Microsoft account site).

For Microsoft 365 business/admin accounts:

1. Go to the admin center.
2. In Bills & payments > Payment methods (or Products > View payment methods in Simplified view), find the payment method currently in use.
3. To edit details on the same card:
   • Select the More actions (three dots) next to the payment method, then Edit.
   • Update the name, billing address, or expiration date, enter the security code, and select Save.
4. To switch to a different payment method:
   • Select More actions > Replace for the payment method.
   • Choose Use another payment method (to pick an existing one) or Add a payment method (to add a new card/account), then follow the wizard to move subscriptions or billing profiles to the new payment method.

Note: Card numbers cannot be changed in place. If the account number is different, add the new payment method and then replace or reassign it to the subscription, and optionally delete the old one once it is no longer in use.
