want to transfer ownership of Microsoft billing from my employer to me

I have Microsoft 365 on my laptop. I want to switch this application to my newer computer since this is windows 10. But apparently when I set Microsoft 365 several years ago and on auto enrollment, the credit card charge was posted to my company credit card.

Can I update the credit card to my name and the subscription would transfer ownership?

Everything is set-up in my name but I when I check out the subscription area, it states,

"Microsoft 3650 Family shared and managed by his name". Is it because the subscription was paid by him? I would like to change this.

Thank you.

A Microsoft 365 subscription cannot be transferred from one Microsoft account (owner) to another. Changing the payment method or credit card does not change who owns or manages the subscription.

In this case, the subscription is owned by the account that originally purchased Microsoft 365 Family (your employer’s account). That is why it shows as “shared and managed by” that person, even if the apps are installed under a profile with your name.

To have full ownership in your own name:

    1. The current owner (your employer) should turn off recurring billing on the existing subscription so it can expire: see turn off recurring billing.
    2. When that subscription expires, purchase a new Microsoft 365 subscription using a Microsoft account and personal payment method.
    3. Install Microsoft 365 on the new Windows 10 computer using the new personal subscription.
    4. If using Microsoft 365 Family, share the new subscription from the new owner account with any family members as needed.

The existing subscription cannot be moved into a different account or have its ownership reassigned; only a new subscription in the desired account can achieve that.
