Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
A Microsoft 365 subscription cannot be transferred from one Microsoft account (owner) to another. Changing the payment method or credit card does not change who owns or manages the subscription.
In this case, the subscription is owned by the account that originally purchased Microsoft 365 Family (your employer’s account). That is why it shows as “shared and managed by” that person, even if the apps are installed under a profile with your name.
To have full ownership in your own name:
- The current owner (your employer) should turn off recurring billing on the existing subscription so it can expire: see turn off recurring billing.
- When that subscription expires, purchase a new Microsoft 365 subscription using a Microsoft account and personal payment method.
- Install Microsoft 365 on the new Windows 10 computer using the new personal subscription.
- If using Microsoft 365 Family, share the new subscription from the new owner account with any family members as needed.
The existing subscription cannot be moved into a different account or have its ownership reassigned; only a new subscription in the desired account can achieve that.
