Canceling a subscription with a school email is impossible!

Hello,

I am extremely frustrated and hoping to reach a human representative regarding an urgent billing issue.

I signed up for an Azure subscription using my school email and linked my personal credit card for payment. After graduating, I no longer have access to my school account, and therefore I cannot log in to Azure to cancel the subscription.

I contacted my school IT department, but they informed me they are unable to assist with canceling the subscription. At the same time, I am still being charged on my personal credit card.

I have attempted to contact Microsoft support multiple times, but I am only routed to automated systems or disconnected without any assistance. It has been nearly impossible to reach a human representative.

At this point, I am simply trying to:

Cancel the active Azure subscription

Stop all future charges

Resolve any outstanding billing issues

This situation is extremely frustrating as I no longer have account access but am still being billed.

I would greatly appreciate urgent assistance from a human representative to resolve this issue.

Thank you.

Dear @DuyNguyen203, Welcome to Q&A forum. I understand that you created an Azure subscription using your school email, but used your personal credit card for payment. You have now graduated and can no longer access the school account. Because of this, you are unable to sign in to Azure to cancel the subscription, but charges are still appearing on your credit card.

Could you please confirm whether you can access this Azure account? If you still access this Azure account, you can follow the steps from this article: Cancel and delete your Azure subscription or from this portal Microsoft Azure Support Ticket | Microsoft Azure

If you cannot access your Azure account, you can create a trial account and then create a support case from the Azure portal. To create a support request, please use Help + support in the from Azure portal. For details, see How to create an Azure support case. Submit a support request: Clearly state your situation and include: issue details, Confirmation that you're subscription owner, Billing information. Then Submit and note the case number.

    Important Notes:

    • A trial tenant doesn't provide access to your original tenant's data or settings; it's only for contacting Microsoft support.
    • The resolution may take longer because you're contacting from a different tenant.
    • Please remember to cancel and delete your trial subscription after resolving the issue to avoid charges. Please learn about canceling and deleting your Azure subscription.

Please understand that our initial response does not always resolve the issue immediately. However, with your help and more detailed information, we can work together to find a solution.

I truly appreciate your patience and understanding. If you have any further questions or need further clarification, please feel free to reach out. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

  2. Q&A Assist

For subscriptions created with an organizational (school or work) account, cancellation and billing control are tied to that account. When access to the original account is lost, self-service cancellation through the portal is not possible, and direct assistance from Microsoft Support is required.

Because this involves billing on a subscription that cannot be accessed, the only supported path is to work with Microsoft Support so they can verify identity and ownership, then cancel the subscription and stop future charges. Community forums and automated tools cannot perform this action.

Use these steps as a pattern (adapted from the Microsoft 365/billing guidance in the context):

    1. Go to the Microsoft account and billing support entry point: Contact Microsoft Support.
    2. Sign in with any current Microsoft account that can be used for support (it does not need to be the old school account, just an account to open the support request).
    3. Select the product family that best matches the billing issue (for Azure-related billing, choose the closest available billing/support category).
    4. In the problem description, clearly state:
      • That the Azure subscription was created with a school email that is no longer accessible.
      • That a personal credit card is still being charged.
      • That the school IT department cannot help.
      • That the request is to cancel the subscription, stop all future charges, and resolve billing.
    5. After entering the problem, select Get Help, then choose the option to Contact Support (chat or call) when presented. This routes the case to a human billing/support agent.

If the subscription was actually purchased through a third party (for example, an app store or a reseller) rather than directly from Microsoft, cancellation and refunds must be handled by that third party’s billing support, as described for other Microsoft subscriptions in the context.

Until a support agent processes the request, charges will continue, so it is important to persist with the Contact Support path rather than only using automated help.
