MS Office 2024 Pro Plus was installed this evening and activated with a 25letter Product key. I located the icons and put them on my PC desktop. I noticed that the "Properties" location for Winword and Excel were located in a different directory than the other 4 programs. I then found files excelcnv.exe and wordicon.exe and ran those programs. Big Mistake!!! I then tried tried running Excel and Word without success. Outlook runs ok. PowerPoint wanted to change the product id so I typed it in again.

Win Word - Will not start

Excel - Wants to open up in safe mode

Power Point - Wants the id changed

Outlook - Seems to be OK

Accicons - Cannot run on my PC

On Note - ?

    Hello @Pete Hoysan,

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

To better understand your situation, could you please clarify a few details:

    • Where did you obtain or download the Office installation package from?
    • Are you signed in with a Microsoft account when using Office?
    • What is your Windows version?
    • Did the issue begin immediately after installation, or after running files such as excelcnv.exe and wordicon.exe?

Based on the symptoms you described (Word not starting, Excel opening in Safe Mode, PowerPoint requesting the product key again, and inconsistent installation paths), this behavior may indicate that the Office installation is corrupted or not fully configured.

Additionally, a similar scenario has been reported in the Microsoft Q&A forum where installing “Office Professional Plus 2024” from a non-official source resulted in incorrect version behavior and application issues. In that case, the root cause was related to unsupported licensing and installation source.

To help with the issue, please try the following steps:

    1. Repair your Office installation
      • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features
      • Select Microsoft Office → Modify
      • Run Quick Repair first, then Online Repair if needed
    2. Perform a clean reinstallation (recommended if repair does not help)
    3. Verify your Office version and license
      • “Office Professional Plus” is a volume-licensed edition intended for organizations. You have to activate is using KMS or MAK method
      • If you purchased the product key through a reseller for personal use, please contact your reseller directly for further support.

If the issue persists after these steps, we recommend contacting Microsoft Support for further assistance, especially regarding activation and licensing concerns.

MS Office 2024 Pro Plus (LTSC Professional Plus 2024) is a volume license product intended for organizations, not for individual/home use. Issues such as some apps not starting, repeatedly asking for product IDs, or behaving inconsistently are common when the product was obtained from non‑legitimate resellers.

Given the symptoms (multiple apps failing to start or asking for keys again) and that Office 2024 Pro Plus is not sold as a consumer license, the installation and license source are likely not valid. The appropriate action is:

    1. Stop trying to repair or reactivate this installation.
    2. Contact the seller and request a refund, as this is almost certainly an unauthorized resale of a volume license.
    3. Obtain a legitimate retail Microsoft 365 or Office license through official Microsoft or trusted retail channels and install that version instead.
