Dear Debra Moffitt
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand you are having problem with Classic Outlook for Windows where adding your personal account fails with the message: “Something went wrong and Outlook couldn’t set up your account. Please try again. If the problem continues, contact your email administrator.” I am happy to assist you. Does this error happen only for this one address/domain, or for any personal email you try to add in Classic Outlook?
Have you tried the AI given steps yet? Please also try these steps:
- Remove saved Outlook credentials
- Close Outlook.
- Open Control Panel > Credential Manager.
- Under Windows Credentials, remove entries that have Outlook in the name (repeat for any additional Outlook entries).
- Restart Windows, then try adding the account again.
- Create a brand‑new Outlook profile
- Close Outlook.
- Open Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles > Add.
- Create the new profile and set Outlook to prompt for a profile (or select the new one), then start Outlook and add the account in the new profile.
- Run troubleshooters for Classic Outlook setup/profile issues
Please tell me how it goes. Have a lovely day!
