    Hi david ly

I understand you’re unable to send, receive, or open/view email in Outlook on your iPad, and you’re also asking if there’s a Microsoft app (like Defender) to scan for threats. Please kindly confirm:

    • Is your account Outlook.com personal (@outlook.com/@hotmail.com/@live.com) or a work/school email domain?
    • In Outlook on iPad, do you see any error text (even a short code), or is it just stuck loading / blank when opening messages?
    • Is the issue only in Outlook iOS, or does it happen on other devices too?

I would love to hear from you soon. Have a lovely day!

To restore Outlook.com mail on iPad and deal with these scam messages, use these steps that are supported in the documentation.

    1. Check that the Outlook.com account itself works
    • Sign in to Outlook.com in a browser on a computer.
    • If messages can be sent and received there, the mailbox is healthy and the issue is likely with the iPad app.
    • If messages cannot be sent or received in the browser either, follow the Outlook.com guidance:
      • Make sure cloud storage is not full and clean up if needed.
      • If the account is blocked or sign‑in fails, use the Microsoft account sign‑in helper and, if required, the unblock process.
      • If one device is not syncing, remove the device partnership from the mailbox and let it resync. Details for these steps are in the “Can’t send or receive email in Outlook.com” article.
    1. Fix Outlook on iPad if mail is not syncing
    • If Outlook.com works in a browser but not on iPad, treat this as a mobile sync issue:
      • Follow the “Troubleshoot Outlook mobile issues” guidance for accounts that stopped syncing.
      • Remove the Outlook.com account from the Outlook app on iPad and add it again using the Outlook mobile setup instructions.
      • If the account was added as POP/IMAP in another mail app, remove that profile and add it as an Exchange/Outlook.com account so mail, calendar, and contacts sync correctly.
    1. Handle the scam / extortion emails
    • The screenshots show classic scam messages claiming a device has been hacked and demanding payment.
    • In Outlook.com on the web:
      • Select the message and use Report (or Report as phishing) so it is sent to Microsoft for analysis.
      • Move it to Junk Email or delete it.
    • Do not reply, do not pay, and do not open any links or attachments in those messages.
    1. About scanning email with an app
    • The Outlook.com service already applies Microsoft’s server‑side filtering and protection to mail; there is no separate Microsoft Defender app for scanning individual Outlook.com messages on iPad.
    • For additional help with features or suspicious mail handling in the Outlook mobile app, use in‑app support: open Outlook for iOS and use the Contact Support option described in the Outlook for iOS help article.
    1. If problems continue
    • If Outlook.com works in a browser but Outlook on iPad still cannot send, receive, or display mail after re‑adding the account, follow the “Troubleshoot email setup on mobile” guidance and, if needed, contact Microsoft support from a different account or device as described in the iOS setup help article.
