My outlook freezing has gradually been getting worse and worse, I've seen that the KB5074109 update is causing a problem for people, but it's not available in the list of updates available to uninstall in my settings, despite being clearly visible in my list of recently installed updates. How can I removed it?

    Hi Claire Ames,

I understand how disruptive this issue can be. After installing KB5074109, Microsoft has noted that some applications, particularly Outlook, may become unresponsive when opening or saving files in cloud‑based locations such as OneDrive or Dropbox.

Microsoft has confirmed this issue is addressed in KB5078127. If you do not see it offered automatically in Windows Update, you can manually download and install it from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Please let me know if the issue continues after installing the update and I’ll be happy to assist further.

KB5074109 is a known cause of Outlook freezing and hanging with POP accounts. When it cannot be uninstalled from the normal “Uninstall updates” list, the recommended path is to install the out-of-band fix that supersedes it rather than removing it directly.

According to the guidance, Microsoft released KB5078127 as an out-of-band update that fixes the Outlook issues introduced by KB5074109. The steps are:

    1. Open Settings in Windows 11.
    2. Go to Windows Update.
    3. Make sure Pause updates is turned off so the device can receive new updates.
    4. Select Check for updates.
    5. Allow Windows Update to scan and then install KB5078127 (OS Builds 26200.7628 and 26100.7628) when it is offered.
    6. Restart the PC after installation completes.

This update contains the fix for the Outlook freezing and “still running” issues caused by KB5074109, so there is no need to remove KB5074109 if KB5078127 is installed.

If Outlook continues to freeze after installing KB5078127 and rebooting, verify in Settings → Windows Update → Update history that KB5078127 is listed as successfully installed.
