I'm trying to log into outlook but the backup account I have is not receiving the code email from Microsoft. I fear I may have blocked Microsoft when cleaning up emails from inbox

    Hi There,

Thanks for reaching out, I hope you are well.

I understand how important it is for you to receive your emails without any disruption, and I appreciate you taking the time to look into this issue. I know how frustrating it can be when messages don’t appear where you expect them, especially when you rely on Outlook for daily communication.

This can happen for several reasons, such as messages being miscategorized, rules unintentionally redirecting mail, or service-related interruptions within Microsoft 365.

To help resolve this, I recommend first checking your Spam or Junk folder, as legitimate messages can occasionally be routed there. It’s also helpful to review your Outlook rules to ensure none of them are silently moving messages to another folder, including the RSS feed. If you notice others in your organization experiencing the same behavior, it may be related to a service issue, so reviewing the Microsoft 365 Service Health dashboard can provide clarity on any ongoing incidents.

Keeping Windows and Outlook updated is also important because outdated clients may experience syncing or connectivity problems. Running the Microsoft 365 diagnostic tool can help automatically detect and fix issues, and ensuring your network connection is stable and not set to metered can further improve message delivery.

To help me guide you more accurately, have you noticed this happening with all emails or only specific senders? Please feel free to follow up anytime if you’d like me to walk you through any of the steps or if the issue continues after trying these suggestions.

If the reply was helpful, please don't forget to upvote and/or accept as answer, thank you!

    Regards

    Anatoly Turingan.

Follow these steps to restore receiving Microsoft verification codes in the backup Outlook account:

    1. Check junk and other folders
      • In the backup Outlook/Outlook.com mailbox, look in Junk Email, Other, and any custom folders for messages from @accountprotection.microsoft.com.
      • If found, mark them as Not junk and move them to Inbox.
    2. Verify Microsoft is not blocked
      • Sign in to the backup Outlook.com account in a browser.
      • Go to Settings > Mail/Options.
      • Open Blocked senders or Block and allow.
      • Look for any entries like @accountprotection.microsoft.com, @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, or similar Microsoft domains.
      • Remove those entries from the blocked list so messages from Microsoft are allowed again.
    3. Check rules or filters
      • In the same Mail/Options area, review Rules (Inbox rules) to see if any rule is moving or deleting messages from Microsoft.
      • Disable or delete any rule that diverts Microsoft mail (for example, sending it to RSS feeds or another folder).
    4. Confirm the backup email is correct on the main account
      • When prompted for verification on the main Outlook/Microsoft account, confirm that the first/last characters shown for the backup email match the backup account being checked.
      • If the address is wrong or outdated, use another working method (phone, other email) to sign in and update security info.
    5. Avoid repeated code requests
      • Do not repeatedly request new codes in quick succession; excessive requests can cause temporary blocking of code delivery.
    6. If still not receiving codes
      • Use the Microsoft account sign-in helper or recovery options from the main account to choose a different verification method (phone, another email, or Microsoft Authenticator) until email to the backup account is working again.
