Hello Connie Yonan, and thank you for posting to Microsoft Q&A. I understand how frustrating it is to deal with a persistent error for an email you can't even find, and I appreciate you sharing your concern here.

Error 17193 typically means that at some point in the past, an email with a large attachment got stuck in a hidden "sending loop." To stop this and clear the error, please follow these steps to locate and remove the stuck file:

    • Go to the very top menu bar of your Mac and click on Outlook
    • Select Work Offline from the drop-down menu.
    • In your left-hand folder list (where your Inbox and Sent Items are), scroll to the bottom to find the Outbox folder.
    • Right-click the stuck email sitting there and select Delete
    • Go to your Deleted Items or Trash folder and empty it completely to ensure Outlook stops trying to sync that large file.
    • Finally, go back to the top menu bar, click Outlook, and click Work Offline again to uncheck it and reconnect to the internet.

I hope this information helps you get rid of that persistent error message. Please let me know if you need further assistance or if these steps worked for you.

Error 17193 about attachments being too big means there is (or was) a message with an oversized attachment stuck in the mailbox. In Outlook for Mac, oversized messages can be held in Drafts or Outbox and keep generating errors until they are removed or reduced.

Use these steps to clear it:

    1. Check Drafts for large messages
      1. In Outlook for Mac, open the Drafts folder.
      2. Look for any old or unsent messages, especially those with attachments.
      3. Open each one and remove attachments, then try Send again.
        • Or, if the message is not needed, select it and choose Delete.
      4. Go to the Trash folder, select the same message, and Delete it again so it is permanently removed. The error can continue until the message is deleted from Trash.
    2. Check Outbox for stuck messages
      1. Open the Outbox folder.
      2. Start with the oldest message.
      3. If any message has large attachments (around or above 20 MB), open it and delete the attachment.
      4. Either attach a smaller file or use a link instead, then send again, or delete the message entirely if it is no longer needed.
    3. If the error persists
      • Verify that Microsoft cloud/mailbox storage is not full, because a full mailbox can also block sending and receiving.
      • If no large messages are visible in Drafts or Outbox and the error continues, use Help > Contact Support in Outlook for Mac so support can check for hidden or server-side stuck items.
