For issues installing or updating apps on Windows 11, and for safe screen sharing, use these steps and guidelines.
- Fix problems installing or updating apps from Microsoft Store
Follow these in order on Windows 11:
- Close and reopen the app
- If a specific app is stuck installing or updating, close it completely and reopen it.
- Check Windows Update
- Select Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
- Install all available updates and restart if required.
- Confirm the app is compatible with Windows 11
- Some apps do not work on all versions of Windows. If there is a compatibility error, check for a Windows 11–compatible version in Microsoft Store.
- Update Microsoft Store itself
- Open Microsoft Store from Start.
- Select Library > Get updates.
- Let Store and app updates install, then try again.
- Repair or reset the problematic app
- Select Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the app, select the More icon > Advanced options.
- Select Repair. If that does not help, select Reset.
- Reinstall the app
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Go to Library.
- Find the app and select Install.
If the app is not from Microsoft Store, use Settings > Apps > Installed apps to uninstall it, then reinstall from the publisher’s official site.
- Safety and privacy when sharing the screen
No legitimate Microsoft support agent should ever:
- Ask to open online banking or show bank balances while screen sharing.
- Ask for full credit card numbers, full passwords, or one-time codes.
If anyone who “shares your screen” or claims to be from Windows/Microsoft asks to:
- Log in to online banking
- Show bank statements or payment cards
- Reveal passwords or security codes
then immediately:
- Close the browser or banking tab.
- End the remote session or screen share.
- Disconnect from the internet if needed.
Then run a security scan and, if any credentials were exposed, contact the bank and change passwords.
