Taskbar bell notifications for Outlook.com and Hotmail.com depend on the web or app notification settings, not on the Outlook version numbers shown.

For Outlook.com / Outlook on the web:

    1. Open Outlook.com or Outlook on the web in a browser.
    2. Ensure the correct account is signed in (Outlook.com or Hotmail.com).
    3. Select View > View settings.
    4. Go to Calendar > Shared calendars if expecting notifications for shared calendar updates and enable Calendar updates for the relevant shared calendars.
      • This controls email notifications when shared calendars are updated; those emails can then trigger system notifications if the OS and browser/app allow them.

For general mail notifications in browsers (Chrome/Firefox):

    1. In Outlook.com / Outlook on the web, open Settings and verify that notifications are enabled (mail and calendar alerts).
    2. In the browser’s site permissions for outlook.live.com or outlook.office.com, allow notifications.
    3. Ensure the OS notification settings allow the browser to show notifications on the taskbar.

If using the new Outlook for Windows (the app that hosts Outlook.com accounts):

    1. Confirm the account is added as an Outlook.com/Hotmail.com account.
    2. Check Windows notification settings so that Outlook is allowed to show notifications in the taskbar.

For Gmail in Chrome/Firefox, enable notifications within Gmail settings and then allow notifications in the browser and OS; otherwise, no taskbar alerts will appear.
