The error shown is a known issue when using a Gmail account in classic Outlook. It occurs when Outlook does not have the correct Google permission or when IMAP is not enabled for the Gmail account.
Use these steps, in order:
- Confirm Outlook is on a fixed build
- For classic Outlook, install the latest updates so that it is at least:
- Current Channel Version 2404 (Build 17531.10000) or later for the Gmail sign‑in issues, and
- Current Channel Version 2412 (Build 18324.20168) or later for the Gmail permission retry fix.
- After updating Office, restart Outlook.
- Re‑run the Google sign‑in and grant full mail permission
- In Outlook, when the Gmail account shows the error, use the Retry link in the error window (available starting with Version 2412 Build 18324.20168).
- In the browser window that opens for Google sign‑in, sign in to the Gmail account.
- On the consent screen, under Select what Microsoft apps & services can access, make sure the option “Read, compose, send, and permanently delete all your email from Gmail.” is checked.
- Complete the sign‑in.
- Ensure IMAP is enabled in Gmail (if still seeing “cannot connect to the server”)
- In a browser, go to Gmail and open Settings.
- Go to Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
- Under IMAP access, select Enable IMAP and save changes.
After these steps, Outlook should again be able to connect to Gmail and synchronize subscribed folders without the 0x800CCC0E error.
