    Hi @Goldszmidt, Frans,

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

I understand that accidentally sending private information to users outside your organization can cause discomfort.

I would like to provide you with a completely honest answer: you cannot recall an email if the recipient is outside your organization.

According to Microsoft documentation, the email recall feature only works when:

How to recall an email in Outlook: Requirements, Limitations & Steps - Microsoft Support

    • Both you and the recipient are within the same organization
    • The recipient has not opened the email User's image

I understand that this may not be the information you were hoping for, but I hope this helps you better understand the limitations of the tools available to end users.

If there is anything else I can assist you with, please feel free to reach out to me.

I hope this information is helpful.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to share them in the comments on this post so I can continue to support you.

I look forward to continuing the conversation.

Once an email has been successfully sent to an external recipient, Outlook or Exchange cannot forcibly delete or recall it from that recipient’s mailbox. Control over the message is lost as soon as it leaves the organization’s environment.

    The only available actions are:

    1. Delete local copies
      • Delete the message from Sent Items.
      • Empty Deleted Items/Recoverable Items as required by organizational policy. This only affects copies stored in the organization’s mailboxes, not the external recipient.
    2. Contact the external recipient
      • Immediately ask the recipient (by phone or a separate email) to delete the message and any attachments and not to forward or store it.
    3. Involve internal security/compliance
      • Report the incident to the organization’s security, compliance, or data protection team so they can assess impact and take any required legal or policy actions.

There is no supported technical method in Outlook to remotely remove or “unsend” a message from an external user’s mailbox once delivered.
