All of a sudden my gmail account won't send and receive. The error says "0x800CCC0E, cannot connect to server." When I try to repair it, it says "weren't able to set up your Google account with IMAP." What do I do so it will re-setup?

The errors match a known Gmail/IMAP issue in classic Outlook. Use the supported fix and, if needed, the manual workaround to fully reset Gmail access and let Outlook re‑set up the account.

    1. Make sure Outlook is on a fixed build
    • The IMAP setup issue is fixed starting with Current Channel Version 2412 Build 18324.20168.
    • In classic Outlook, go to File > Office Account > About Outlook and confirm the version/build.
    • If it is older, update Office, then restart Outlook and try the Gmail account again.
    1. Use the Retry sign‑in if offered
    • When the IMAP error appears, look for a Retry link in the error window.
    • Select Retry and, in the browser sign‑in to Google, ensure the permission box is checked:
      • “Read, compose, send, and permanently delete all your email from Gmail.” under Microsoft apps & services can access.
    • Complete sign‑in and let Outlook finish the setup.
    1. If it still fails, use the manual workaround

Step 1 – Remove Microsoft access in Google

    1. Close Outlook.
    2. Sign in to the Gmail/Google account at google.com.
    3. Select the profile picture > Manage your Google Account.
    4. Go to Security.
    5. Under Your connections to third‑party apps & services, select Microsoft apps & services.
    6. Select See details for Microsoft apps & services has some access to your Google Account.
    7. Under Access you've given to Microsoft apps & services, choose Remove all access and confirm.

Step 2 – Delete old Google IMAP credentials in Windows

    1. From the Windows Start menu, search for Credential Manager and open it (on Windows 10 this may be under Control Panel).
    2. Select Windows Credentials.
    3. Under Generic Credentials, find entries starting with MicrosoftOffice16_Data:OAUTH2.
    4. Expand each and hover over the name until the full value shows tp_google_imap_Oauth2.
    5. For each credential that includes tp_google_imap_Oauth2, select Remove. There are typically two per Gmail account.
      • If only a specific Gmail account should be removed, map credentials using the registry key: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity\Identities.
    6. Re‑add the Gmail account in Outlook
    • Reopen Outlook classic.
    • Add the Gmail account again from File > Account Settings > Account Settings… > New.
    • When the Google sign‑in window opens in the browser, sign in and ensure the Gmail permission box is checked as above.
    • Finish the wizard and then test Send/Receive.

If Outlook never prompts for a password during IMAP setup, also verify on the IMAP details page that Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is unchecked.
