I want to turn off the hover function for my mouse and touchpad (or trackpad!). It wastes my time all day when it assumes I want to click on something.

    Hi David Yale,

The hover function you’re describing is usually tied to the “Activate a window by hovering over it” setting in the Ease of Access Center. You can turn this off by going to Control Panel > Ease of Access > Make the mouse easier to use, and unchecking that option. If you’d prefer to keep hover but delay it, you can adjust the timing in the Registry Editor under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop by modifying the MouseHoverTime value. Setting it to something like 15000 (milliseconds) will give you the 15‑second delay you mentioned.

For trackpads, some manufacturers also include their own utilities (like Synaptics or Precision Touchpad settings) where hover or tap‑to‑click can be disabled or fine‑tuned. It’s worth checking the device‑specific settings in addition to Windows’ built‑in options.

You can try the above steps and let me know the outcome. If this answer helps clarify the situation, I’d appreciate it if you could click “Accept Answer” so others with the same issue can find the solution.

    Jason.
