It just says it is trying to sign in but nothing happens. I have tried reseting the app, reinstalling the app and neither works.

Follow these steps to fix the OneDrive sign-in issue on Windows when it hangs on “trying to sign in” even after reset/reinstall:

    1. Confirm the account and password work
    2. Start OneDrive from Windows and try sign-in again
      • Select Start and search for OneDrive.
      • Open it; if you see a gray OneDrive icon with a line through it, select it.
      • In the Set up OneDrive window, enter the email address and password for the account.
      • Note: Only one Microsoft personal account can be added. If signing in with a work or school account fails, reset the password or contact the organization’s IT admin as needed.
    3. Check for connection/firewall/VPN issues
      • If sign-in still hangs or shows “not connected,” the connection may be blocked.
      • Temporarily connect through a different network (for example, use a mobile hotspot) and try signing in again.
      • If that works, the original network’s firewall, VPN, or ISP may be blocking required OneDrive endpoints. Review firewall/VPN settings or contact the internet provider and ensure they support access to Microsoft 365 services. For more detail, see Required URLs and ports for OneDrive.
    4. Make sure the latest OneDrive client is installed
      • Download and install the latest OneDrive sync app from the official download page: Download.
      • After installation, run OneDrive from Start, then sign in again.

If the problem persists specifically with error codes 0x8004de80 or 0x8004de86 during sign-in, then:

    1. Unlink and relink OneDrive
      • If an old or different account was previously used, unlink that account from OneDrive and then set up OneDrive again with the correct account. See Unlink and relink OneDrive for detailed steps.
    2. Completely reinstall OneDrive
      • Open Start → type Programs → select Add or remove programs.
      • Under Apps & features, select Microsoft OneDriveUninstall.
      • Download the latest OneDrive client: Microsoft OneDrive app.
      • Install it and follow the prompts to sign in.
    3. Clear multiple identity conflicts (advanced)
      • If multiple Microsoft/Office accounts have been used on the device, cached identities can block OneDrive sign-in.
      • Follow the guidance to remove the cached Office account identities from the registry as described under Solution 3 in the OneDrive sign-in error article.

If, after confirming the account works on the web, updating OneDrive, testing on another network, and clearing old identities, sign-in still never completes, contact Microsoft support with details of the behavior and any error codes shown.
