Signing into Xbox app tells me to connect to internet, even when I already am. And whenever I try connecting through the web, it works

Whenever I try to sign into my microsoft account for the Xbox app (minecraft installer too), it says I'm not connected to the internet, but when I try signing in on the web version (Opera GX), it works fine. Any ways to fix this? (I'm on windows 11 btw, my laptop is a ASUS Zenbook14x OLED if that helps)

Check if the 'Gaming Services' service is actually running from an administrative CMD prompt...

    sc stop GamingServices
    sc start GamingServices

As reinstalling Gaming Services & the XBOX app didn't work, you could create a new local user account temporarily, then just add your M$ account to the Store & not profile-wide (pretty sure you'll get a prompt about adding the account system-wide); just click "applications only." This is so the XBOX & other related apps can update to their latest versions. Try disabling the 'Windows Firewall' temporarily & try logging in again; remember to enable it again, though it should auto-enable again after 5m.

Also, for future reference, instead of the laborious AI steps detailed above for repairing/fixing troublesome UWP apps, RMB 🪟 click 'Installed Apps' @ the top, find the troubling app, RMB 'Advanced Options' scroll down, and try a 'Repair' first, then 'Reset' if repair didn't work, then as a Hail Mary try 'Uninstall' and then reinstall via the M$ Store.

    Hi Kaiser,

Thank you for reaching out. I understand how confusing it can be when the Xbox app or Minecraft installer reports that there’s no internet connection, even though signing in through a web browser works normally.

In this situation, web browsers and Windows apps use different sign‑in components. When the Windows app sign‑in services aren’t responding correctly, the app may display a connectivity message even while your internet connection is active.

Please try the following steps to resolve the issue, in order:

    1, Sync system time

    • Go to Settings > Time & language > Date & time
    • Turn on Set time automatically and select Sync now

    2, Reset Microsoft Store cache

    • Press Windows + R
    • Type wsreset.exe and press Enter
    • Restart the device after the Store opens

    3, Verify Xbox services

    • Press Windows + R, type services.msc
    • Ensure these services are running:
      • Xbox Live Auth Manager
      • Xbox Live Game Save
      • Xbox Networking Service
      • Microsoft Account Sign‑in Assistant

    4, Re‑add Microsoft account

    • Go to Settings > Accounts > Email & accounts
    • Remove the Microsoft account under Accounts used by other apps
    • Restart, then add the account back

5, Temporarily disable VPN or network filters

    • Turn off any VPN or custom DNS services
    • Try signing in again

    6, Check network profile

    • Go to Settings > Network & Internet
    • Ensure the active network is set to Private

Follow these steps on Windows 11 to fix Xbox app sign-in saying there’s no internet even though the browser works:

    1. Confirm Windows actually sees an internet connection
      • On the taskbar, check the Wi‑Fi or Ethernet icon.
      • If it shows No Internet, follow the Wi‑Fi troubleshooting steps:
        • Run the Network troubleshooter in the Get Help app from the Wi‑Fi article: Run the troubleshooter in Get Help.
        • Make sure the PC is connected to the correct Wi‑Fi and that other apps (e.g., Store, Edge) can reach the internet.
    2. Check basic connectivity from the lock screen
      • Sign out or lock the PC.
      • On the lock screen, select Network and make sure it is connected.
      • Some Microsoft account sign-in flows require that Windows itself (not just the browser) has an active connection.
    3. Make sure Windows and Microsoft Store are up to date
      • Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates and install all available updates.
      • Open Microsoft Store > Library > Get updates and let it update all apps and services.
    4. Update/repair Gaming Services and Xbox app
      • Sometimes Gaming Services or the Xbox app get into a bad state and break sign-in.
      • Update Gaming Services:
        1. Open PowerShell as administrator.
        2. Run:
                  get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers

        3. In the same PowerShell window, run:
                  start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN

        4. In Microsoft Store, install Gaming Services again.
      • If the Xbox app itself is outdated or broken, repeat a similar process for the Xbox app as described in the sandbox troubleshooting:
        1. In PowerShell as administrator:
                  get-appxpackage Microsoft.XboxApp | remove-AppxPackage -allusers

        2. Then run:
                  start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9mv0b5hzvk9z

        3. Install the Xbox app from the Store page.
    5. Restart the PC
      • After reinstalling Gaming Services and/or Xbox app, restart the PC and try signing in again from the Xbox app and Minecraft installer.

If the issue persists after these steps, repeat the network troubleshooter and verify that no VPN or firewall is blocking Xbox services.
