I am stuck in Microsoft Authenticator Login loop with my Azure account so I can't login.

Login sends me to Authenticator. Authenticator is not seeing the request.

When I ask to try another way, I expected login to try my phone but it went to authenticator agai.

    Hello,
    Thank you for reaching out.

This Authenticator login loop typically happens when Microsoft Entra ID keeps enforcing the Authenticator app as the default MFA method, but the push notification never reaches the device (often due to blocked notifications, app state issues, network/VPN filtering, or stale MFA registration), so choosing “Try another way” simply redirects back to Authenticator instead of SMS or call; to break the loop, ensure the Authenticator app is unlocked, online, notifications are enabled, date/time are set automatically, and try starting sign‑in with the app already open, but if the prompt still never appears, the issue usually cannot be fixed client‑side and an admin must reset your MFA methods or re‑register Microsoft Authenticator in Entra ID—reinstalling the app alone does not help because the server‑side registration remains intact, and for fully locked‑out admins, Microsoft tenant recovery support is required. Use the following checks and steps to break the loop and complete sign‑in.

    1. Check why Authenticator is not completing
    • Make sure the Microsoft Authenticator app is unlocked on the device when trying to sign in. If the app is locked, the prompt/entry box may not appear.
    • Ensure notifications are enabled for Microsoft Authenticator on the phone (no Focus/Do Not Disturb, no silent or blocked notifications). If SMS is configured as a method, also check text messages for codes that may have arrived silently.
    • Confirm the device has a working internet connection. If needed, switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data and try again.
    • Verify the date and time on the device are set correctly (prefer automatic network time).
    • Make sure the latest version of Microsoft Authenticator is installed from the app store.
    1. Try the sign‑in again
    • Open Microsoft Authenticator first and keep it in the foreground and unlocked.
    • Then start the Azure sign‑in again and wait for the prompt. If using number matching, ensure the prompt appears and the correct number is entered.
    1. If still stuck in the loop
    • If the sign‑in page keeps forcing Microsoft Authenticator and never offers other methods, an admin may need to reset MFA registration or add another method for the account via Microsoft Entra ID / Azure AD.
    • If this is a work or school account and there is an IT admin, contact the IT admin to:
      • Reset MFA for the user account, or
      • Temporarily disable the Microsoft Authenticator requirement so another method (SMS, phone call, etc.) can be used.
    • If this is a managed tenant and the only admin is locked out, contact Microsoft support so the Data Protection team can help verify identity and reset MFA, as described in the referenced Q&A threads.
    1. If the password is forgotten
    • If the issue is also related to a forgotten password, use the official password reset flow: Reset your password.

If none of the above resolves the loop and there is no alternative verification method available, escalation through the organization’s IT admin or Microsoft support (Data Protection / Tenant Recovery) is required to regain access.
