In Windows 11 there are two different things happening in the question:
- The browser window itself is opening maximized (taking the whole screen).
- The page content inside the browser may be zoomed above or below 100%.
To address both:
- Make the browser window open at a smaller size
- Open the browser.
- If it is maximized, click the Restore Down button (the middle button in the top‑right corner, between Minimize and Close) so it is no longer full screen.
- Resize the window by dragging its edges or corners to the preferred size.
- Close the browser using the X (Close) button while it is at that size.
- Reopen the browser; most browsers remember the last window size and will open at that size instead of maximized.
- Set page zoom back to 100% in the browser
- Open the browser.
- Press Ctrl + 0 (zero) on the keyboard. This resets the page zoom to 100% in most browsers.
- Alternatively, use the browser menu (often three dots or three lines in the top‑right corner) and set Zoom to 100%.
- If everything on the screen looks too large or too small (system‑wide scaling)
If the entire desktop, apps, and text look too big or too small, adjust Windows 11 display scale:
- Select Start > Settings > System > Display.
- Under Scale & layout, change Scale to a value that looks right (for example, 100%, 125%, or the one marked Recommended).
- Select Start > Settings > Accessibility > Text size.
- Move the Text size slider, then select Apply.
These steps will make the browser open in a smaller window and ensure the page content is at a normal 100% zoom, while Windows display settings control how large things appear overall.
