The Windows installation is badly damaged and will not boot normally. Use Windows recovery tools to repair or reinstall Windows; this will need to be done on the PC that is failing, not on the MacBook.
Because the system will not start and network/driver loading is failing, use one of these approaches:
- Try automatic Startup Repair
- Power the Windows PC completely off.
- Turn it on and as soon as Windows starts to load, hold the power button to force it off again. Repeat this 2–3 times until Windows enters the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
- In WinRE, choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.
- Let Startup Repair run and see if Windows can repair the boot and system files.
If Startup Repair cannot fix it, move to reinstall/reset options.
- Use Reset this PC (keep files if possible)
If WinRE is available:
- In WinRE, select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
- Choose Keep my files to preserve personal files (documents, pictures). Apps and settings will be removed.
- Follow the prompts to complete the reset. This reinstalls Windows while trying to keep personal data.
Notes:
- "Keep my files" keeps personal files but removes apps and settings.
- If Reset fails or is not available, a full reinstall will be required.
- Reinstall Windows using installation media
If WinRE cannot be reached or repair/reset fails, reinstall Windows from external media:
- On a working PC, create Windows installation media on a USB drive.
- On the broken PC, boot from that USB (change boot order in BIOS/UEFI if needed).
- Use the installation media to reinstall Windows. This usually removes all files, apps, and settings, so back up data first if there is any way to do so.
- If the device supports Connected System Recovery
Some OEM devices support Connected System Recovery from BIOS:
- Enter the device’s BIOS/firmware menu.
- Choose the Connected System Recovery option if present.
- Ensure the device is on AC power and connected to working Wi‑Fi.
- Run the recovery. Be aware:
- Connected System Recovery removes all personal data and restores a fresh copy of the last known Windows version on that device.
If Connected System Recovery shows errors:
- Confirm Wi‑Fi is connected after selecting the recovery option in BIOS.
- Connect AC power.
- Restart router/modem and try again.
- If the motherboard was replaced, Connected System Recovery will not work; use Reset or installation media instead.
- If nothing works
If Startup Repair, Reset, Connected System Recovery, and reinstall from media all fail or are not possible, contact the PC manufacturer’s support or Microsoft Support from another device to discuss service or a factory restore.
Impact on data and apps
- Reset (Keep my files): Personal files should remain; apps and settings are removed.
- Reinstall / Connected System Recovery: All files, apps, and settings are removed. Back up any important data first if the drive can be accessed from another machine.
