I have the same problem as previously reported (# 5679080) and despite running all the correction steps. I am still unable to download messages from Gmail into Outlook. Everything was working OK up to10 days ago. I now find that I can:

Connect to the Gmail inbox server using the mail Setup set up (Control Panel)
Unable to download the list of IMAP folders from Gmail server. (I receive the error message - "The folder list was not fully refreshed. Cannot connect to the server.")

Any ideas on other steps I can take as the problem occurs on two different computers attempting to access the same gmail mailbox.

I assume this means you have done all the workarounds described in the Microsoft Support articles for the recent Classic Outlook/GMail problem?

But you are unable to use the "normal" Add a GMail Account to Classic Outlook process?

Just as a test - If you are in the Inbox for your GMail account and do Folder -> IMAP -> IMAP Folders do you see the IMAP Folders dialog? If so, what happens if you click the Query button? Do you get the same error as when you try to sync?

I have now removed both gmail accounts I have and here are the screenshots of setting up the simpler account. I am using app passwords.

and when I go to the account in Outlook and ask to update the IMAP folder list I get the following screens

The sending the test mail works as I can use Thunderbird to access my Gmail accounts using IMAP, and can see the standard Microsoft Outlook Test Message in my mailbox.

Note prior to setting up the email account, I cleared the registry keys and the credentials for both gmail accounts. Are there any other locations in the registry I should be checking / clearing as the problem affects two computers I use.

I have just checked in the Google security settings and I've not been asked to re grant access to Microsoft after removing the previous grant

Just noticed when I looked at the top of Outlook's screen, there was a request to sign into Google using the browser. Completing this action resolved the problem and I have fully regained access to my mailbox.
