My keyboard is not working (when typing the pin/ password) when I open it, it always needs to restart 1-2x before I can type my pin/ password. P.S. The keyboard (numbers and alphabet) is not working when entering the pin but working fine with others.

    Hi xxxx,

Thanks for your post. I understand that your keyboard does not respond only at the initial PIN/password screen after startup but works normally after a restart and within Windows. Have you already tried the Q&A Assist suggestions? In addition, please try to turn off “Fast Startup”. Please try the steps below:

    1. Open “Control Panel”
    2. Go to “Hardware and Sound” > “Power Options”
    3. Select “Choose what the power buttons do” (left pane)
    4. Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable”
    5. Under “Shutdown settings”, uncheck “Turn on fast startup (recommended)”
    6. Select “Save changes”
    7. Shut down the PC completely (do not restart), then power it on and test the PIN screen

If the issue continues after disabling Fast Startup:

    • If you are using an external USB keyboard, temporarily test with another keyboard or another USB port
    • Disconnect any non‑essential USB devices and test again

This helps rule out initialization or hardware‑level conflicts at sign‑in.

The behavior matches a known Windows bug where the keyboard does not work at the first sign‑in screen but works normally after a restart. The moderator‑recommended fix is to turn off Fast Startup.

Follow these steps in Windows 10:

    1. Open Control Panel.
    2. Select Hardware and Sound > Power Options.
    3. Select Choose what the power buttons do from the left pane.
    4. Select Change settings that are currently unavailable.
    5. Under Shutdown settings, clear the checkbox Turn on fast startup (recommended).
    6. Select Save changes.
    7. Shut down the PC completely, then power it on and test the keyboard at the PIN/password screen.

If the issue started after a recent update and disabling Fast Startup does not help, test with another keyboard to rule out hardware, and check for any third‑party security software that might interfere with input at sign‑in (uninstalling such software resolved a similar keyboard issue in another case).
