How do I update my official name?

To update the official name shown on an Outlook.com / Microsoft account, the Microsoft account display name must be changed.

Follow these steps:

1. Sign in to the Microsoft account page and go to Your info.
2. Select Edit name.
3. Update the first and last name fields as desired.
4. Complete the Captcha if prompted, then select Save.

Notes:

• It can take up to 24 hours for the updated name to appear everywhere (including Outlook on the web and other Microsoft services).
• Changing the display name does not change the Xbox gamertag or local Windows account name.

If the account is a work or school account and the name cannot be edited, contact the organization’s IT admin, as some organizations do not allow users to change their own names.
